Can someone sell Perth (and Oz) to me!

You know what - there are families who`ve lost loved ones in NZ today, there is a potential war brewing in Korea and here we are blowing hot air about Perth. The original poster hasn`t even logged on or made any comment since posting this question so obviously it can`t be that important to them. As PP stated previously - there are more important things in life than bumping our gums about bogans and mass generalisations about whole areas being full of retarded feral bogans.
The one thing this thread has shown - you either love it here or you hate it - ultimately I can only go by my own experience which has on the whole been good - but then Im a glass half full type.

Sorry but I am not continually happy, I have my own shit to deal with and I dont see the point walking around looking miserable, I would rather try and make the best of it - moaning will not solve it, it will make it worse.
As I said, there is human nature moaning and there is the other kind. You want green fields, bloody well go and find them or go to a place where you can. Same goes for museums, history, culture.
I am not telling anyone to 'get over it', and what I have said is not even on a link with depression, I have a mental illness myself - PTSD and I know one cannot just get over it. My inner 'horrors' live with me 24/7, no pause/stop/rewind button so yes I know you 'cant get over it'.
But what is digging out my arse in annoyance is the slating 'bogans' - they dont look right to her, its generalising an entire suburb or suburbs and the way in which she does it.
She hasnt mentioned that she has clinicial depression, she has mentioned she is bored and as I said, it takes less effort to be bored than it does to get off your arse and do something - anything, try something.
Noone likes the moaning teenager that says 'mum Im bored' when they have 6weeks off for summer hols, well this is what a bored adult sounds like.
And as for smiling, even if you are feeling crap - there is nothing wrong with trying to smile to not only make yourself feel a bit better but to make you a little more approachable to your friends/colleagues.

You know what, you are both so right. There is so much more going on in this world apart from who is happy or who is unhappy in Perth. Why don't we all agree to disagree, those who are unhappy go and do something about it or mix with like minded people and leave us who are happy alone.
Neither group is right or wrong, it's just that we don't see things the same way.

I have no problem at all with people not liking Perth as we are all different with differing hobbies and needs. I do have a massive problem with racists and people who insult whole swathes of society just because they may dress or wear their hair differently. Some of the words used in some posts in this thread are highly offensive and discriminatory. IMO of course.

You are always moaning, seriously has anyone ever pointed that out to you? You have somewhere to live, a husband and family, you are alot better off than alot of people yet you still moan.
Not only do you moan, but you seem to positively revel in slating people for enjoying their lives in a place that you see as a dive. People I might add who have a job, house and friends and realise that they are quite lucky in life with what they have.
Its easy to be bored you see, it takes no effort, its easy to moan constantly about your lot because that is less effort than seeking out stuff to do, I dont mean the occasional moan that we are all entitled to, that is part of human nature, I mean the moaning of the highest order - 'Im bored, no cafe culture, everywhere is a dive, these people are bogans, this school is feral, these kids are feral'.
Yet on the MBTUK forum there is a lady on there that has posted 'this time next year I will have been a one year cancer survivor'. Someone who isnt bored with life, but wants to grab it with both hands and live it and she sure puts you to shame, in fact many of the other members of the 'boredom gang' that post on here.
But no, your health and family, roof over your head, food on the table and an opportunity to do whatever you want if you would only get off your fat arse and grab that opportunity, this is not enough for you.
Because you do have the opportunity to do stuff, we all do. So instead of moaning about your lot, why dont you make the best of what you have and try to change what is within your powers.
Instead of insulting people that you see as feral and bogans, that could actually be salt of the earth type people that you never know, you might just find a good friend in.
But for the love of mike either go out and grab life while you are still young and healthy enough to do it but please stop complaining about what you havent got, open your eyes and see what you have and what is right in front of you.

Bogans here, ferrels as I will call them it is not just how they look but act too , brainless twits ......the kids here the other day drowned a long necked turtle in a net , it had eggs ready to hatch , other day one kid drowned a baby bird in a carrier bag ....feral yes outside my house this is .........No not everyone who looks like a rough dirty clothed bare footed person will be an arse , but that the majority of pikis in the uk or bogans here or jerry springer trailer trash ... have been bred by the same kind .......and always have a low mentality , I may be generalising however I had no choice but to take this rental, I am not a snob but I do have standards , I am not slating whom live in port kennedy each has chosen it for their own reasons , maybe they live in a Nice area of ROKO ora nice home , maybe they have bought here or even better maybe they have a great circle of friends or social life , hobbies .............I AM SAYING IT FROM HOW I SEE IT .
I have a right to moan I live in an ant infested pit over priced , the area is like a council estate , I have been around settlers hill in BALDIVIS , knocks spots off Port Kennedy ...may not be local to freo or city but it is tidy clean from what I have seen much better .....
And when you go on and MOAN ,.........................yes moan that I am moaning !!! and people have cancer , I should be thankful I have a roof over my head bla bla , well let me tell you
I was brought up by an alcoholic mother
violence in the home
I suffered depression after each of my kids post natal|_I had M.E for four years and struggled over to sydney adelaide and brisbane I almost packed up with kidney problems, liver failing and was so ill I almost gave up living,I was in a wheel chair for that time . as my brain wasnt telling my legs to walk .
I had a baby after my husband had a vasectomy and was in national newspapers as he was sterile although we prooved he was the biological father . to sue hospital.
I lost my mum aged 25 to a horrible death
my cousin at the same time killed himself
I then had a major operation
I sued my employer as was discriminated against for being straight I worked on the door in a gay club !!! look up sharon legg bouncer wins case on any search engine ..........the stress of fighting 25 people in court.
Then my husband and I split for a year which gave me a breakdown
moving house 3 times and having my 4 kids on my own
to getting back together making this dream happen as I bloody deserve it
we all have our problems even the ones like you with a smile on your face , I too have always got a smiley face and I am a survivor ..............I tell you right now if it was not for the prozac then I don't know .
.......................SO as far as I should appreciate what I have..... I do appreciate I have my health back, I am happy I have healthy beautiful kids .............however feel cheated by the dream as I am not where I want to be right now ................there is always someone out there worse than us , I saw horrific things in India, this poor woman on the streets with TWO babies her face was melted into her chin , she could not work or fend for the babies , I bought her shopping...... I visited orphanages , animal refuges donated to them ,iI renewed my vows on a beach in India last year and it was great to see people with nothing smile , I smile too ..............they cry too ..................they moan too ................ I do my bit for society as I am a vegetarian ......however does not mean I should be satisfield to stop here and put up with animal cruelty outside my home , nor low scum of life ................so I will continue to moan until I am happy in my 4 walls and life around me .
.................had to get that one in the end there .......................p.s I don't have a fat arse to get off I am pretty thin ........lol ...............

Have to agree with a lot of what you say. I work in mining and a lot of the guys i work with could be described as prize winning bogans. We could even hold championships in mullets and the nafest t shirts - some of the Bali rip off JD ones would be the favourites. But. I think these guys are great. I will be at the house of one of the guys along with a few others of the crew to watch the ashes cricket. The atmosphere will be amazing and the jibes good fun. Personally, i find a lot of those who go on about bogans are way too stuck up themselves. It makes my wife laugh a lot when she sees the typical "up market" Perthites having a go at the bogans and the way they dress, as she, as a designer and artist points out that these fashionistas are either dressed like crap or two years behind.
Perth is a bit of a mining town that got big. So there will be a gig working class element. But most a great people who work hard for their families and can be great friends

To me, people who are perpetually happy, always put on a smiley face regardless, and the world is a happy and perfect place are usual borderline insane, simple or on happy drugs or a result of their culture.
Nothing wrong in being in touch with your current state of mind and actually admitting it rather than pretending everything is perfect and bottling it up. We all know the forever happy types, usually the ones who are actually drowning in deep shit IMO. You have to seriously wonder why there are so many regular posters on BE?! Seriously, think about it.
1 in 5 people will get depression in Australia, the highest proportion in the Western world I believe. Tell those people to 'buck up' and 'get over it' and 'pull their socks up'
. Yes, we do moan about trival stuff but keeping it locked inside can cause more problems IMO. Nothing wrong with venting and ranting and everyone is entilted to their opinion.
I DO understand how Bruce n Sheila feels as if she has gone backwards in life by moving to a certain area. It's not a snob thing, just human nature for wanting the best you can offer your family and yes, she has grabbed life by the balls by leaving the UK to come to Aus - how much more ball grabbing can you get than that??!!!! If you hang around with dogs with fleas, then you eventually catch fleas.

Maybe the PP was trying to mix with like-minded people on here, and as they're new to Perth, didn't realise about the two camps of "love it here" and "hate it here". There's probably a 3rd camp of "sort of like it here". If people aren't happy, or are happy about living in Perth, or somewhere else, then isn't BE a place to talk about it without entering a fight with the other camp?
I would be in the fourth camp I reckon, something like "love it here but wish we'd arrived ten years ago when we could afford to buy something to live in"!!!!
To B and S, please move as soon as you can. We started off in Quinns but I'm not going to say anything bad about it, it just didn't suit us. We realised after two months but we had signed a six month lease and paid for the whole six months so we just had to sit tight. We then moved just ten minutes up the road and the kids moved schools but it made all the difference and we feel much happier and settled here. Having said that, shit happens wherever you live, even in posh Iluka....

Sorry Bruce and Sheila for the rant
but seriously, count your blessings, try and locate to somewhere where you would like to live and make the best of what you have because in the blink of an eye your situation can change drastically.
And then quite suddenly, you will yearn for 'ordinary', because there is nothing wrong with ordinary, and there is nothing wrong with the people you refer to as Bogans because they might not dress or look the way in which you are used to but they could turn out to be the best mates you have ever had.If you have a good set of brains, your health and some determination then channel it into making yourself happy.
You know I spent Fri night in hospital and there was an elderly man in the bed next to me with cancer, his wife died 7 years ago and he has noone now, I heard him asking the nurse to 'take his cancer pain away as he was fed up with it' -
It just made me think how much we fret about the trivial stuff.Go and give your husband and kids a hug, take a look around and not only appreciate what you have, but grab life by the balls and show it what your made of.

Baldivis is very new - the building groups are still responsible for the upkeep, Port Kennedy housing is on average around 15 yrs old and come under Rockingham Council for upkeep (as will Baldivis eventually). It`s no different to Secret Harbour that you`ve already slated as "Stepford Wives" If you are bored in Port Kennedy I really can`t see things changing in Baldivis. You are no nearer to the cafe/pub lifestyle you say you crave, plus you`ll still be near Rockingham and all us retards with 6 toes
Seriously if it`s that bad rather than taking the company to court which could take a while, why not break your lease - plenty of people do it, or try and get someone else to take over the lease and move nearer the city to the lifestyle you crave. After moving all the way over here, then moving from the NOR to SOR, I`d be making damn sure my next move was ticking all my boxes and getting it right.

My friend offered me to rent in claremont yesterday a lovely home but $1000 a week is a little out of my affordability and were not talking mansions were talking same size house as port kennedy. If I break my lease I am responsible to pay the remainder of the tenancy, even if they find a new tenant ..............the only wyay forward is to take them to court for breaching the lease and then hope the magistrate ends the tenancy on the pure fact they have not upheld their resposibility of their part of the lease............... if I don't pay the remainder when responsible to........ I get bad credit , I do not want that when I do not know what the future holds ....................
ref baldivis (settlers) it is a bit stepford wivey desperate house wifey but the cricket ground the way the roads are set up some tree lines as it is newer it does look pretty ..............also it is a good 10/15 minutes nearer the city than Pk and bang on the dual carageway...........as port kennedy is a suburb that is older it surely is starting to show , Not everyone has 6 toes in Port kennedy however a majority out rule the minority .......some even may have 7
