I intend to sit in the car in storms and not to be in the tent after morning.

Wanted to narrow the fuel to one fuel rather than carrying all sorts. The Coleman's no good as won't use Diesel like you say so if we are going to go Coleman may as well get Gas rather than carry their fuel.

The funny smell was probably Deb not the stove...

We had a Coleman duel fuel stove & a lantern in the U.K both excellent products & very efficient. One 5 litre jerry can will fuel both a lantern & a stove for a couple of weeks camping with plenty to spare.
As for diesel/multi fuel stoves, one of the boats we had was fitted with a diesel stove it was the dirtiest smelliest means of cooking I've ever had to use. The whole galley took on the smell of diesel as did the food prep surfaces & consequentially the food. NEVER will I have another, bloody awful things What space you save carrying fuel will more than be taken up with the extra water necessary to remove the stink of the diesel from hands etc.
We've camped quite a bit since we arrived here, we brought our tent from the U.K. Deb splashed out on a dual burner cooker to replace our metho trangia, though I still use the trangia if I go for a night on the beach fishing. I wish I'd brought the Colemans with us but we left them in a rucksack full of other camping gear at Deb's mums.
One thing we learned while camping in QLD is that you really need a large tarp & a few extending poles to erect a shelter over your camp & tent. It makes a huge difference to the temp inside your tent if it's covered with a tarp + it provides shade or shelter from afternoon storms

It's very occasionally nice to do while you save up for the next 5 star luxury hotel room to make up for the camping trip...

I've done Glastonbury, Woodford and six months in Spain living in a VW camper in my youth. That was enough for my lifetime!

Coleman fuel is far safer than carrying a gas cylinder when offroading.
The tarp keeps the tent from heating up during the day so it's cool enough to sleep at night..........well cooler

i had the whole camping lot in the UK and kept giving it a go but nothing convinced me i enjoyed it. After one final last attempt witha week in cornwall during which it rained the whole week (it was middle of august after all ) i swore never to do it again and sold all the stuff when we got back.
On getting to Oz the kids asked if we could do it again so off i trots to Big W to buy the cheapest 2 man tent going (no point in spending lots of money for somehting i would hate hey?) I intended to sleep in the car so a 2 man was big enough for the kids.
In the end the kids had the tent and i slept out under the stars, in the sand dunes in the middle of nowhere and you know what I LOVED IT!!! every single moment of it - Im hooked and cant wait for next summer to do it all again

We were camped , in the truck at Roxby Downs one night on the edge of the Simpson Desert, i was sleeping in the Sleeper cab in the truck, my offsider ,who normally slept in the back ,decided after a few beers that he would sleep in the Dunes at the side of the truck.
2am i was woken by a Yell and a lot of commotion , he had woken from a dream that he was kissing a beautiful girl , to find a Dingo licking his face, i dont Know was more scared......................mm

Was just looking at the poll again, interesting results!

We love the whole camping thing here, since my last post on this thread back in May we have been to so many places we would never have seen if we hadnt bought the caravan, we love it, just back from Robe last weekend and off again next weekend back to a quickly before Christmas trip to Walleroo!

Booked for a few of us to meet up at Camp Site for New Years Eve, cant wait I know its going to be a riot and something we would never of previously done!!
