Camping In Oz!!

Just wanted to know the following as getting a load of grief back home for having bought a caravan recently, been called all sorts from "Old Farts, to "Gypos" etc etc

Alot of our Pomie mates have purchased a tent or caravan on arrival just wondered what the general scores on the doors are!!

We camped all over Australia when we were there and intend to do it again once we've emigrated.
Only difference now is I'll need electric hook up for my straighteners and hairdryer ;)

When we were young, we did a lot of bushwalking with the kids but now I am older, unless it has at least 4* with room service and cable tv I am not interested!

Camping has to be the number one passtime in Qld, after fishing.

Go for it. !

Went camping once and vowed never to do it again. Totally hated the whole week and living like stig of the dump is not what I would class as a holiday. Give me a hotel/B&B (or something similar) any day of the week.

We've been camping a few times now and I really enjoy it.
Never did it in the Uk apart from with the girl guides, years ago ;)
Love the chilled out atmosphere and the fact that we only have a BBQ so OH does all the cooking :)

We got out tent here, and love camping. We always go with friends and have a great time. The kids love it too and if we are very lucky we only see them when they get hungry!

So on this theme what have people found to be the best camp burner and chairs for Aus?

We have a Trangia methylated spirit stove which has served us well in the past.

Notice here a lot of people use cast iron but it weighs a ton and will max the weight on a long journey then you need fuel to be available where you camp for the fire to cook on.

Do most people go for the gas (various versions) hob set up, wood or meths?

Also as I said what's the strongest light weight chair. I was looking at some primus folding ones the other day that seemed quite good but you never know how much stick they will take for real?

When we go we have a 2 burner gas stove and as we always go powered site I take an electric frypan and a toaster. I can pretty much cook anything on a combination of those.

We have Coleman chairs which cost us $50 each but they are sturdy and have a little insulated pocket to keep beer in :D

Rays outdoors have some brilliant chairs, our friends got them and next time I am passing will pop in they take up to 120kgs and are well comfortable think they around the $50 each price range!

We have a caravan so a little easier on the taking stuff thing, so already have a gas stove, microwave, toaster, electric frypan and we take a barbie, so we are well and truely sorted, only thing I cant do is a proper roast!!:rofl:

Deffo recommend BCF ...

We use a 2 burner stove, a small barby ( both gas powered lol )
Chair wise, ... debs Kookaburra chairs are the comfiest, i prefer my fold flat jobbies with the snap up drinks holder and side table :)

Must get this year, is a small inverter.. to run smaller appliances, such as phones etc.

Would love to rig up a proper camper trailer, just sold my tradies trailer... so its next on the list..and ultimate would be a water spike and some solar panels lololol

If anyone comes up with a good camping trip... we were gonna do that, park up past Kilcoy ( landcruiser park ) but kinda forgot lol...

Perhaps as weather is cooling , a long weekend would be the go.

edit:

Get your arse over to a good army store. ex surplus.

Best ive found is at Browns Plains, but theres a goody at Ennogerra, and one at Strathpine i think.. or Lawnton ( always get mixed up )

I fancy the diesel fuled stove so limits all the crap you have to carry as should be carrying diesel anyway but, not many around here seem to be more popular in US. Primus do do one but no price.

I've posted re: Jimna on the Bobby thread.

I want fold up chairs of some sort as room is limited on big trip outback.

Strathpine one has shut but the Ennogerra one always has lots on offer.
