I come from a set of parents who never thought of anything as "man's work" or "women's work". If something needed doing everyone did it. My dad made all 5 of his daughters take a basic auto mechanic's course before we could get our driving license (we lived in the country, so driving was important) and all of my brothers had to take a home ec course so they could cook and sew for themselves. My dad's philosophy was that we should all be self sufficient.

I love doing mosaic. When we were still in Canada I did a lot of stained glass work and have tons of glass left over. I'm going to do a mosaic with some of the smaller pieces for our water feature at the new house.

I would love to take a metalwork course and learn how to do wrought iron work. There was a blacksmith shop about 2 hours from where I lived and used to go up there to watch him work. I don't seem to see those type of short courses here, though.

My wife's playgroup raise funds in their annual sizzle and make 2000 bucks easily.

Example of Australian fund-raising at play.

Broke our Bunnings virginity on Friday: my wife has mentally spent thousands.....which is fine as long as I get the barbie.......have to say, very well stocked, lots of staff and always somewhere to play for the kids.
