True, but at least they recognise there is a problem. Will Howard jump on this bandwagon?

Hope not.

To regards the OP, dont go with BIGPOND as there download limits are rediculously low and are counted mostly in megs and not gigs.

As someone posted earlier look up Whirlpool as it give you all the ISP in OZ. iinet are pretty much one of the cheapest/fastest.

Most people are still on cable (including myself). I suspect this is due to the convenience of being able to bundle digital TV with ISP.
Don't be silly... Availablilty on ADSL is twice that of cable... and price wise Oz is absolutely miles behind Blightly... and thinking about it, service wise as well... We are with iiNet and pay $70 for our broadband, capped at 60GB a month and another $35 for the line rental... Talk Talk in the UK charge £20/$50 for line rental, unlimited broadband at 8 meg, plus 1000 minutes on the phone to anywhere any time; that was nearly a year ago so may be cheaper now... and although Oz is notionally at 24 meg you can't actually get that to any meaningful destinations... ie the US or Europe... Added to which the ACCC has just given the ISP's here a black eye with their advertising the 24 meg service when they know full well they can't deliver...

Australia a broadband laggard, studies show

Australia's sluggish broadband speed have drawn the ridicule of business leaders both here and abroad and if world comparisons are anything to go by, the ire is justified.

Australians are typically avid users of new technology once it arrives but the nation's small population, large land mass and legacy of heavy communications regulation have meant infrastructure plans have been slow to gain traction.
