Still keep car use to a bare minimun. With the suburbs being so bland there are not so many occassions would want to venture out to them.
Have cafes and resturants almost on the doorstep and can walk or one stop on the train to city centre.
True Aussie cities do have limited appeal for walking in and are not even that safe at night so a car does offer a sense of security, but then not many venture out at night anyway.

However, while I don't like the city itself, I am quite content in my little unit as thats my own little world; I also have some truly lovely friends, and a fantastic job, and thats what tips the balance to get me to stay.

I have to laugh at folks saying Brisbane is boring. I simply never have nearly enough time to do what's on offer. I would love a bit of boredom so I could get a rest from the social whirl that is my life, the nearest I get is coming on here to have pointless arguments and talk drivel.......

I have to admit, I've done quite a bit of research into Brisbane and it appeared on the surface to have lots going on. Bars, restaurants, museums, events, concerts, shops etc etc. I'm glad you said the above... I was wondering if it was all Brissie Propoganda that I had been reading!!!

I don't think it has the range of things to do that Melly for example may have, but it has the weather

It's bollocks mate. Opera, gigs, plays, museums. etc etc. A group of us did the Bris-GC 100km cycle last weekend and stayed down the coast, this weekend is Oktoberfest if my memory serves. If there isn't some show or something on we will be at friends or having a pool party at ours. I have done nearly as much here as when I lived in Edinburgh, with the biggest comedy and arts festival in the world. Not suggesting it has that breadth or depth but there is plenty here to do without even factoring in my new found passions of water skiing and cycling. I have never been bored for 1 second, too much to do. I ride 3 times a week, although only started about 3 months ago. Never been caught in the rain until the GC at the weekend...... The weather is a huge plus here and if you are an outdoors type you will really soak it up. Deep sea fishing trip next month and then into xmas party season. Will need some drugs to stay the pace at my age..... Been to some fabulous gigs here too and the footy is a great family day out with no trouble although the atmosphere can't match EPL or even SPL. My wife is a bit of an art lover and has really enjoyed some of the exhibitions there have been. Friday night free jazz down at Southbank over a bottle.... Could go on all day.....

Had an interview for Perth today.... still think Brissie is top of my list but I have to say I was very impressed with what the company had to say and the person I spoke to.. luckily they have an office in Brissie too...
More work for hubby in Melbourne though I think... Its good all round for both of us in Sydney but I kind of think maybe Sydney is just too big for us...
Thanks for all the feedback - most helpful

Hi All,
Sorry to butt in on this thread but seeing as its to do with Brisbane I thought someone might be able to give me some advise. I arrive in Brisbane at the end of November for job interview, my wife and teenage daughter are coming to. I am looking for any advise on hotels to stay at for a few days in Brisbane before we travel up the coast. All advise greatly received.
Many thanks Gonk

As a neutral observer to this thread, I'd say YES it is!

Too much to do, not enough time.

Don't live in Brissy, but ive been and I couldnt agree more. The people who claim Brisbane and other cities like Sydney are completely boring and blah blah blah must be EXTREMELY boring people themselves.
The reality is the city and area has countless things to do, and if you choose to sit there and sulk and analyze how the city isnt cultured enough etc than one needs to get a better life.
I never really understood how people claim all kinds of antics about cities all over the world. Life is what you make it and to each their own but think its hilarious anyone claiming outright that any city for that matter is completely boring.
