I would liken Brisbane to a "nice" American city. The car rules and there are lots of idiot drivers. There's very little greenery in the city - high rise everywhere. It's quite red-necked, customer service is crap, weather is horrid in the summer - extreme heat and humidity. It's a boring, boring, big town with a small country town mentality. I too think the international departure airport is the best part.

No xenophobic intent in my reply, was merely pointing the fact that interstate migration seems to make up a higher proportion SE Qld migration than other interstate migration to other states, but well off the topic of whether to live here or not.
But to get back to topic, you are never going to know what it's like until you live here and if you can afford it, you should do a reccie of the eastern state capitals if it's the east coast you are thinking of.

Although, Roma Street Parkland, in the centre of Brisbane, is quoted as being the world’s largest subtropical garden in a city centre.

There has been a significant turnaround in the weather over south-east Queensland.
Brisbane experienced its hottest day in four years today, with the mercury topping 40 degrees.

...or the awful congested roads....this is a particularly sore point as I have just got in from my usual evening crawl along the Riverside Expressway (sic).
'Riverside Expressway' is a bit of a stupid name for a permanent traffic jam isn't it?

Maintenance works on the Riverside Expressway are scheduled to recommence 5 October 2009, with works occurring periodically until late December 2014.
