Most working mothers with 2/3 kids have a schedule like that EVERY day, its nothing to do with your great aus v uk quest. What I described would be a very uncomplicated day in the life of a working mother in any country, ask any woman who works and has kids. And dont forget most of the women on this forum would be doing it without any extended family to back them up either.

I think people rely too much on family, especially Mum and Dad. Don't forget, even with a Mum or a Dad in the country does not make them magical chidminders. My Dad can't drive, nor can my old dear, she lives 150 miles from London, is a bit of a worrier anyhow. We couldn't move to where they are anyhow.

Your parents are not going to be around for ever. I notice alot of people do seem to have attached themselves in a way that would make their deaths a huge impact. You wonder how they would cope all of a sudden in a crisis.

My grandfather died when he was 93. It was my first death, and I was like "righto" - not a bad score. We all thought that. I was overseas and couldn't believe it; a lot of friend's grandparents died when they were kids, I was in to my late 20s and at one point it looked like he was going to live forever. He had 3 funerals, I rushed back to Heathrow for the 3rd funeral or whatever it was called, and the taxi-driver at Heathrow didn't know where the place was - so I missed it as well - I raised my eyes heavenwards and said a few words and that was it. Forgotten all about him now the old sod. My grandfather would have been amused.
