Yea, call me old-fashioned, but when one someone spouts borderline-xenophobic bollocks endlessly, I find myself disagreeing, as opposed to stroking my chin thoughtfully and adding a 'Good onya Arkon' when he says something like 'All Australians are thick'.

And yea, I'm not going anywhere...

Only Tas and Adelaide left to go but both seem too remote to me, but still got to give them a look just incase. I'm told I will like both by people that know me so you never know.

I say good on Hutch...he has as much right to post whatever he likes as Arkon does...
Yes but go back and read most of his 1st replies to most of my posts and rarely if any are constructive to the debate or thread, just simple abuse in the most part. No skin of my nose as I ignore most of his and vash's posts anyway. I suppose I should be honoured that he takes the trouble to snipe at me, shows he cares really.

Yeah, although the rain forest is a bit different. I can't think that Arkon would like the slow pace in Tassie, but I'd be interested to see what he thinks.

Still part of Australia though, innit?!

The Aussie navy is too busy rescuing mad Poms who get into trouble off the coast of OZ while trying to fly around the world in hot air balloons and sail around the world little dinghies.

I think that it's reasonable to expect some come back if you are going to write that kind of thing on an open discussion forum.

Like my fellow BE Canberran SASBEAR, I can't say enough good things about the place.......I love it here. We live in the south of Canberra (an area called Tuggernanong) and I have to say that I much more prefer the south side as opposed to Belconnen, etc. Purely because we have great views of the surrounding hills and are surrounded by lovely countryside.

I rarely venture into the actual city centre because we have everything we need in our own little town centre.

Anyway if you decide to settle in Canberra maybe we can have another BE get together, and you and your family can come along. (Bit worried that me and ZX may be "too common" for you though.....lol).

Wendy
LOL, Too common. Contrary to popular belief I am very common, I just have certain standards, Not high ones just normal ones. I will meet up with you next time and prove it.

I too preferred the south side, much less common!

Arkon, I hope you find what you're looking for.
Thanks for that. It does make me wonder why I bothered to write up a positive thread about Canberra. It seems to have given ammo to those that think I'm wrong about Australia by conceding I have found somewhere I actually like. I don't see the two things as mutually exclusive, I can dislike the country and it’s attitudes and still find a city or place to live I like. Doesn’t mean the original premise is wrong.

I could sit and write positive things about Canberra all day and equally a much larger list of bad things about the rest of the country that I have experienced.

I'm still curious why you'd live in a country you hate even if you do find a nice place to be. It's just my personal opinion - I find that odd in the extreme. I'm not 'attacking' you or thinking your original premise is wrong, but I am curious why you'd live here in Aus when you could go home to the country that you do love living in. Please explain that to me... I am genuinely interested.

Why bother when we can just do a search on your past posts?

funny you should say that - this is in process now....

I can see the Courier Mail headlines in the future: "Over supply of bayside homes as British immigrants abandon Brisbane and move to Canberra...."

Canberra Times: "Housing shortage now dire"

You must listen to the news? Watch the telly? listen to talk back radio? It can be just my view. I don't want to start a row about how unfriendly towards any non white they are, but I can't believe if you watch the same news and radio as I do you could come up with any other conclusion. I think it all started during the gold rush when the Chinese got out of hand but I could be wrong.

I think there are many excellent articles out there on the web if you care to look:

http://www.dreamtime.net.au/indigenous/social.cfm

Here are two that make interesting reading regarding the race situation in Aus.
