Re: Beware Future Oz bound !!!
OK, so everyone is talking about money, but nobody is throwing around any figures. What is the average 'normal' living salary in Oz? 60-70-80k. Is 100 and above considered to be reasonably good money?

As a Civil Engineer, the job I have been offered pays slightly better than what I am on currently in the UK (about $85k AUD). I am told my money will go further but I am under no illusions that I will be able to fund a playboy lifestyle off of it! Cost of living is all down to the individual and everyone is different. For example : I have always carried a hefty car loan coz I want to have a flashy car and some of my mates think I am mad when they found out what I pay!! Other side of the coin, I know a lad who likes his designer clothes and regularly spends over £100 on a shirt!!!!!! which, yeah u guessed it, makes me think he is a fool!!!
Its each to their own and so long as u get a realistic picture of what u can expect to earn before u go, I dont think it takes a genius to work out whether u can fund the lifestyle u want!

I agree with that. I get the impression that an average wage in Oz is around 50-60,000 dollars.people earn less and jobs like mining pay 100,000 plus dollars. If you work for yourself then you can earn as much as you put into it. I will just be earning more than what I could earn here on an employed basis..by about £15,000. I could work for myself here now and earn £60,000 a year but not doing a specialist area of my job (not sports podiatry). Sports Podiatry is big in Oz which is why I can earn better there. My partner is in the police here on £30,000 a year. In Oz that would drop to £18,000 which is why they are considering a career change. It is a difficult decision to make going over to Oz as we could be on a good wage between us here..and have plenty of money..but we are not happy living here and want a more laid back lifestyle and to try something new.
from what I have been told 80,000 plus dollars is a good wage in Oz..please feel free to correct me as I am not living there yet somay be wrong.
Does anyone know what a good salary out there would be? I don't thinbk i willbe rich on $80,000 dollars but I know I will be able to live comfortably and afford the sportsbike I want to ride out there!! I just want a bit of surplus every month..don't expect to be rich!!! If I wanted that I would stay in the U.K and work for myself. For me, work is a big part of life and it has to be doing what you want...not what earns you the most money.
