Best Aussie iphone contract?

I bought my iPhone 32Gb 3G(S) outright at the Apple store in Sydney - unbelievably cheaper than buying one on contract via any of the Australian telcos. Get a bog standard $80 Telstra plan with iPhone and you end up paying $1800 for it (plus $540 up front) - I paid $1024 and it's completely unlocked and can be used with whichever telco I want to use.
Agree with all the comments about Telstra. As much I'd love to switch they have hands-down the best coverage - particularly out here away from the city. If I lived in suburbia I'd probably go with Voda.

Actually Telstra will sub a handset on a 24 month contract. My iphone 3GS 32Gig cost $530. That retails in the apple shop for over $1k. I pay no more on top of that other than my normal $49 cap and a data pack. You don't have to do the whole iphone plan thing.

What about Vodafone?
I have 2 phones both unlimited calls (any numbers) national and local
unlimited texts national and international (outbound).
2G downloads per month (not that I get anywhere near that)
Its about $200 a month or $100 each per month
PS I let the wife have one

Its a N97 Nokia handset with Vodafone but through Crazy John. The tariff changes every month or so. But we went for a higher tariff with free phone. The next day we dropped to the lower tariff (but retained advantage of cheap ie no cost phone).
