Originally posted by jad n rich Its cool, I just think it must be weird reading all this from the UK where its perfectly acceptable to go and get a competitively priced weekly shop in any of a dozen supermarkets..... to be told to get reasonably priced food in aus the average woman is supposed to gather meat in one place, hike off to the farm to get the veggies, barter the fruit at 5 am from the wholesalers, hunt down toothpaste from asia in the pound shop:eek: and trek all over town to find the specials to make dinner. So much for more leisure time, It sounds so 1940:eek: You just have to laugh :D I shop in COLES! I dont know where you shops, but I have a fruit & vege shop & a butcher RIGHT outside the Coles front door. So instead of going through the Coles F&V section I stop on the way out at the F&V shop & buy it. Only extra time I spend is the 2 mins it takes her to tote it up on the til & for me to get the money out. Ditto for the butcher. Why is it that theres always got to be a UK is better than Oz or visa versa? In case you didnt realise, I have never compared the UK to Oz, Im telling you how much I pay for certain items. People can take it exactly how they like, I dont give a shit if you spend that much, doesnt mean everyone else has to. If you choose to pay more for your groceries then dont let me stop you! If you are into throwing money away though, throw some my way, you obviously have heaps, I'll happily spend it on groceries when we go back to the UK in Sept :p . |
Originally posted by Linda Lushardi I am new to posting here, but have been lurking for quite a while. Your remark is very unfair. People who hold a different view and lead their lives differently to you, are no more "spouting certain things" than you are. You do not hold a monopoly on what is and isn't true of Australia, no more than i am. I live here, and i shop very cheaply indeed, much cheaper than i did in UK. As for the comment from someone above, stating that you have to run all over town to buy better and cheaper food and it therefore being too time consuming is utter rubbish!! My local supermarket (which is quite large in itself) is in a small mall with a very good quality butcher who sells his wares far cheaper than the supermarket, next to this is a bakers, again, far better quality than the supermarket. The same goes for the green grocers, pharmacy and various other small one man business shops congregated in very close proximity to each other. If you choose the quick shopping option that is more expensive, and cant be bothered to search out better alternatives, thats your perogitive, but don't pour scorn and ridicule on those who do!! Exactly my point as well. |

Actually the only anger I can see in this thread is from people who dont like it said some food here is expensive, they are the ones who have turned it into you have to shop all over town not me. That is what is so funny, the thread has backfired on them. I shop in Coles, we also buy from a farm I still pay more than in the UK, that I think is due to the lack of competion here. Why that makes you so angry is beyond me, especially as you claim not to give a ____. You say your telling people how much YOU pay and people can take it how they like, well then why cant I tell people how much I pay too? |
Speaking of food, I'm starving. When I get paid on Wednesday, I'm so buying a BIG, FAT Chicken parmigiana (spelling). Additionally, Im going to steam some vegies, mash some potatos and savour every bite. Rent a video and call it a night.
Yum! ;) |

Why that makes you so angry is beyond me, especially if you are not comparing. You think its cheap, I think its expensive you are the one whos angry I find it amusing. And you obviously have a problem with your reading, I dont shop all over town, 1 shopping mall (& a very small one at that) with 3 shops 50 feet from each other. If you buy from a farm as well as Coles then it seems that you're the one whos running all over town, not me :D . Im posting what I pay for stuff when I shop just like you are, but at least my posts dont ridicule people & make fun of them . Despite what you say, I will continue to post what I pay for my groceries. You & Ceri are the ones gabbling that you are the only ones without rosetinted glasses & that know the "real cost" & whats cheap vs expensive. Like I said, I dont give a rats arse what you pay here, or what anyone pays in the UK & Im not saying cheap or expensive. You keep paying it, but Im not that stupid :) . Im sure other people reading the thread are intelligent enough to sort the wheat from the chaff. :D |

You dont even bother answering where I asked you why I cant post my costs too. People can read the posts and see you are really peed off with anyone who posts anyting about australia is expensive, you would like to shut them up I see you are also peed off with my comments on airfares here hence the snide jab about them ;) Really read your posts you are angry, rude, think you own the place and dont like anyone having a point of view apart from your own. For someone who does not give a *XYZ I've really got up your nose.:D |

Like I said, you need to read whats written, where have I said you cant post what you pay? About 4 times now I have said Im posting what I pay for stuff, you can post whatever you like, I dont care. Im posting it for people that want to know, not for you to argue with me about whether Australia is expensive or if UK or Oz is cheaper, but once again you've gone off on a tangent. And me highlighting one word in bold for emphasis is ranting? Yeah right, whos the one whos ranting? As for airfares, I dont know what you're on about, the only time I have ever posted about airfares was to post the price we have paid for a trip back to the UK in a thread last week & to suggest places for you to go on holidays at Xmas. . Ahh of course, I was being helpful, making suggestions for places/prices, posting links etc, how stupid of me, wont make that mistake again  . Sorry to everyone for this thread being dragged offtrack, I really must learn to ignore people sometimes :). Back to the price of baked beans & groceries in Australia. |
