UK Tenders

well the Malaysian government had a formal policy for many years to put all UK tenders last because of years of paternalistic behaviour - sort of like Mike Stanton writ large. Whilst the Australian government has no such formal policy it is an issue that the UK High Comm is well aware of (they have told me) and make great pains to dispell this negative image. Unfortuantely years of hard work can be spoiled by the mike stantons of the world almost overnight. I can assure you it drives them wild with despair (source personal discussions with UK trade commisioner 2001). All UK industry reps and senior govt officials ask for is a level playing field (discussions - lunch with UK defence attace 1998) but until australian is treated as a sovereign nation by the UK then GB firms will always be at a disadvantage.

No need to be rude.
If you have a book of stamps you should be able to use them, and as they only sell them in at the 50 cent level what do they expect. Not everyone has the time to queue up and buy stamps every time they want to post something. Actually I was handing mine in at work to just go in the post sack. They don't sell stamps, you have to provide your own, and the guy quite seriously told me uit was illegal to overstamp a letter.
I have also been told it in a post office, when I tried to leave a card there to post. As long as it has sufficient postage whats the problem? My loss if I choose to spend more than needed.

Mind you I have a hate of Aus Post anyway, owing to the stupid woman that used to refuse my UK passport saying it wasn't valid ID for parcel posting. She was the same one who needed a "large parcel" customs declaration to post a card that had a badge on the front!!!! :scared:

I just hope the people can see your post for what it really is:- a personal attack on somone because they dare to try and point the faults as they see them in Australia. By your definition a person is racist for finding fault in a country and it's ways. An excellent Australian way of putting your head in the sand and pretending problems don't exist so that noone has to get off their ass to fix them. The level of debate when people like you are in it is lower than a primary school debating class.

I don't like what your saying so you must be racist or sexist. Then followed by "I'm telling on you".

You're having a laugh.

So basically a multi-million dollar deal will be ruined by Mike Stanton or someone like him? This says more about the intellgience of Australian businessmen than anything else. "I'm taking my ball home"

You're a phoney.

Under Mahathir, the Malaysian government had an antagonistic approach to many Western governments incluing Australia:

"Former Malaysian prime minister Mahathir Mohamad has poured scorn on Australia's hopes of joining a new grouping of Asian nations, saying "they are Europeans, they cannot be Asians"." Dec 2004

You sound like a real dinky-di-double-chip - one on each shoulder - Aussie to me.

Some Brits, once they hit Aussie shores - will become just as slack arsed as some of the Aussies already there.

(Just listen to the accents of some of the union reps.)

And of course many Brits won't - and they will often be the ones complaining about not being able to get anything done in a realistic time frame.

And threads get closed.
Too much personal abuse and name calling, in amongst what could have been a reasonable discussion.
