The resolution only passed because Russia insisted they take out any blame for themselves, and they are now blithely ignoring it anyway. It sounded good at the time though.

It's amazing just how easily you are impressed by people.
Imagine Kev up there ...... no thanks

This resolution survived Russia’s power of veto. A real setback for them and there ambition to take old of eastern and southern Urkraine.

Anyway, she got a thumbs up from her counterpart in Holland.

Dutch Foreign Minister Timmermans thanked Bishop for her initiative on the resolution, which he said would not have happened without her perseverance, and committed that the two countries would “not rest” until the resolution was achieved.

It would have been suicide to back down. She just did her job and, without any risk. We're Russia about to declare war in Australia because of what Bishop said? Absolutely not. A medal, give me a break. If that's the extent if her role, she's well over paid.

Also, Kevin Rudd has far more influence internationally than Julie Bishop has and I'd guess it will most likely remain that way.

This is the actual resolution

https://australia-unsc.gov.au/2014/0...rlines-flight/

Our resolution demands that armed groups in control of the crash site provide safe access immediately to allow for the recovery of the bodies, and that these armed groups stop any actions that compromise the integrity of the crash site. This is imperative.
That hasn't happened

There must be a ceasefire in the immediate area around the site.
Nor that

The victims must be treated with dignity, brought back to their homes and laid to rest.
Tragically, the mission to achieve that had to be called off today before all the victims could be found.

All parties are required to fully cooperate with these efforts. Russia must use its influence over the separatists to ensure this.
Hmm. Doesn't look like it.

Russia must also use its influence to bring the conflict in Ukraine to an end.
Well they're trying their best if you consider killing all the Ukranians bringing the conflict to an end

The resolution acknowledges the investigations already under way. It demands that safe, secure, full and unrestricted access to the crash site be provided so the investigating authorities can carry out their work. It is despicable that this access is not being provided. It is an affront to the victims and their families. All states, armed groups – everyone – must cooperate with the investigation.
She's right. But its not happening.

Talks a good game. Achieves very little.

I went to a talk by Tim Costello at Canberra Uni yesterday: I was probably the only right of center bloke there (g). He is not noticeably liberal in the Australian sense, and was right on the ball in his analysis of what's wrong with the capitalist growth paradigm. Unfortunately, like all left wingers, he is far better at describing the problems than coming up with solutions. Reminded me of this thread.

What was your idea again? Or are you just claiming the current policy as your own as you believe it's 'probably' doing a good enough job.

Can we and should we do more of asylum seekers than we currently are?

Now the left expect Julie to ride in a tank herself and secure the crash site.

This is quite humorous

The people that do are the ones that deserve a medal. I don't really respect anyone that insists on others carrying guns when they don't have to. But that's for another discussion.

No not only not fun and totally wrong and don't rely on wikileaks for what is going on inside the centres. So any excess of power in your books is ok to reach a possible goal? Many in history have thought the same.

Been practised in front of the mirror for years no doubt. Thatcher would have had you bent over, bow legged pleading for mercy I expect.

Little doubt she would, if she could. Fairly obvious to see she gets off on the image of being a feisty woman. Looks ;like a cat ready to pounce.
