Correct. Which is why I always advise IT job seekers to head for Sydney or Melbourne. It astounds me when I read posts like "I'm a .net developer and I love the look of {insert holiday destination in QLD, WA etc} so I'm going to be moving there and looking for work.

According to this there's virtually full employment in Australia...

"‘‘Every measure of inflation in this report, be it headline, trimmed mean or excluding volatile items, is printing well above the upper tolerance level of the RBA’s 2 to 3 per cent inflation target band,’’ Ms Beacher said. ‘‘Uncomfortably high inflation should not be particularly surprising since the Australian economy is all-but fully employed, a situation that is likely to remain for quite some time.’’

At the latest official reading, the unemployment rate stood at 5.2 per cent. Economists generally say that when the jobless rate reaches 5 per cent, the nation is fully employed."

The market in Brisbane for COBOL programmers who have a little PASCAL experience and want to job-share and maybe work a 9 day fortnight is terrible.

I may have to up-sticks at this rate.

Yes, I'm finding my CP/M skills aren't in too much demand either

I had to drop my "PDP-11 Ninja" status from the CV due to the mirth caused.

I don't understand the always Sydney or Melbourne thing. Sometimes larger shortfall in other cities.

Well one of the teens has finally got an interview with a big aussie store.

Bit of a process

On line application form and 16 questions to determine response/personality.

Phone interview.

Group interview.

One on one interview.

No its not as Managing director its just a part time shelf stacking job while hes in senior high.

I'm on my way back to Brisbane in a few months. Hopefully there will be more than "Please reboot your PC, and the problem will go away" on the phone jobs.

I work in Networking/Servers/VOIP, hopefully I can get something. I'm happy to go bush and dig trenches for Fibre

I thought the NBN would be desperate for people to come work for them.

New national unemployment figures just released at 5.1%, so dropped .1%. WA currently performing the best at 4% (which is unbelieveable really!)

Good news for job seekers.
