Something I have noticed of late, is how many threads are popping up, asking the question, 'so & so or Perth'? Most people cite their reasons as house prices, isolation etc.........

One thing I do find fascinating, is how, for example, Adelaide and Hobart never got a sniff............all of a sudden, there are posts springing up left right and centre, asking questions about them!

Just wondered..........................

Anorak moment:o
Rob,
If you do a search you'll find Qld, Brisbane in particular has always topped Perth/W.A in every Poll on the forum. The only time Qld came second was a couple of years ago when Adelaide came in tops.
You've probably noticed there's more posts about Qld recently because your attention is now focused here instead of W.A.

i have to say I agree with other posters on this thread, Perth's declining popularity is due to the house prices. For the majority of would be migrants dreaming in the UK, one of the top priorities from moving to OZ is trading their terrace house in for a detached 4 bedder with the obligatory pool. This is now out of many people's reach in Perth, as it has been in Sydney for a considerable number of years, so people are looking to where else in Oz they can get the dream house. I feel sure with the continued high prices in Perth it will soon be relegated to further down the popularity poll, just like Sydney.

Personally, and this isn't meant to be inflammatory, but to place so much emphasis on bricks and mortar over scenic location, infrastructure, job opportunities, schooling, night life, etc has always seemed a bit short sighted. If you didn't have a big house and pool in the UK surely you don't miss what you've never had?

Perth has all these things so no problem there.
The fact that less Poms will be moving here is an advantage IMO.

Re: Anyone else noticed the new 'trend'?

Sydney has been the top migrant destination for many years and still is :)

It just may not be the top destination for the 4X2 with pool brigade. But it more than makes up for that in other areas as mentioned of employment opportunity and some levels of infrastructure.

In my opinion Sydney tends to get dissed on this site because of the cost but it is a balance as in any other city and long term could prove a more viable options for many.

Cheers

If I could wind the clock back 4 years I would have gone to QLD.

Perth's pretty damn good though.

Yeah, but you'll be moving to Montana soon?

With prices expected to fall in Perth now is a good time to move there. Six or twelve months rental might enable migrants to get a bargain or not . . .
