townsville scene not too bad. went through a bit of a rough time 8 years ago when there was a series of homophobic attacks (although they reckoned they were actually related to the cheif of the AIDS trust who was jailed for sex with underage boys)
townsville does have it's very own gay venue - the sovereign hotel - http://www.sovereignhotel.com.au not too shabby at all!!
