Re: Any choosing Tasmania?
I think the time confusion is because of the clock change here and in OZ last week.

Re: Any choosing Tasmania?
:D Hi everyone
Very glad to see lots of other people are heading to Tasmania. I have just sent off our visa application today, and thats where we are planning to settle. After my husband and son visted last year we have decided it would be a great place to bring up our 3 children. We have some friends who are in Devonport, and they love the lifestyle over there. Like most people, you constantly wonder wether you are doing the right thing, and its not easy when family & friends question your intentions, but we have told ourselves we are only here once, and if we dont settle we can always come back, better to have had a go, than to regret it when older. It would be nice to hear from anyone alse who's going to Tas ? Bye for now  Carina |
Re: Any choosing Tasmania?
Hi. I'm rejoining the Tas chat. We, too are looking at Tas, only we do keep changing our minds, so we are going to raid our savings (which we really need for the move over) to go over and have a look. On holiday, we are only get a tiny feel for the area but hopefully we can then choose which state we want!
Tas sounds great for families, fantastic scenery, good food etc etc, not sure about the weather but until you've lived somewhere for a year, you can't really tell anyway. Very excited about planning a trip, have spent ages today trying to get good flight prices, when we've booked that, then I really be excited:eek: Sammy |

Bye for now  Carina We put our application in in Sept last year, they officially let us know that they recieved it in Oct and then we didn't hear again till about a month ago when we were instructed to get our police checks and have Medicals. So don't expect to hear from them for about 3 months or so. I didn't know how long it would take and it was doing my head in! So thought i'd mention that bit to you otherwise you might get stressed over it too. Our medicals were sent off yesterday so who only knows how long we have to wait now!!!! Kerry |
Re: Any choosing Tasmania?
Hi Kerry
Thanks for that - we will set ourselves up for a long wait:D Great ! I notice your husband is a Diesel fitter, mine is too. Just thought I'd mention that he went over to Tas in December and got offered 3 jobs while there, so should be ok in that respect. Do you know where abouts you will want to settle yet ? I could'nt go for a visit, as we have 3 children and could'nt really spend the money on us all going, so Karl took our eldest son who's 9 with him, to have a good look around. I get the impression its a bit behind, but you cant have everything. My friend, who lives in Melbourne says that she goes on an annual shopping spree to Melbourne with a group of friends - sounds like a good idea to me ! Hope you hear about you medicals soon Bye Carina |

Being a bit of a townie myself from Milton Keynes I felt that I needed some where that kind of resembled a town. As travelling around Tas you get that kind of country feel everywhere you go which is a good thing of course I'm not knocking it, it's very beautiful. Launceston just didn't have the same character as Hobart, there were nice parts of Launceston, lovely parks for the kids dogs etc but overall Hobart was more cosmopolitan and had slightly better shops! You don't have to go far out of Hobart to find beautiful scenery and wilderness.:D Kerry |
Re: Any choosing Tasmania?
Tassie is a great place to live its friendly and the wether isnt that bad.
If you want shopping jump on jetstar and go to Melbourne or sydney for a couple of days or even a day. And for the dreaded jack jumper ants we have a couple of nests in the garden and ive been stung once in a year and its half the pain of a bee sting. But if you dont want them around you keep spraying ant killer down the nest and they get the message and move out of your garden and it is that easy. |

We spent a week there last October and loved it. We have friends in Cressy and I preferred Lonnie to Hobart, I am a nurse and hope to work in Lanceston General. Not applied for Visa yet as still waiting on skills assessment which is in post I am told. Cathy |
