It seems to me they are only looking at the negative side, things that could go wrong and not the positive sides of immigrating to OZ.

As to not looking at the positive side, you and anyone else is welcome to put that point of view.
I don't write off the idea of returning to Oz by any means, but I'm not infatuated by the place and therefore won't do it without being pretty much certain of being able to earn a decent living there. Quite simply, I can't afford to do otherwise.

sack - this shows you the rollercoaster we're on at the minute. After I read your post yesterday (which I found very useful), I thought 'Maybe we should just cancel the whole thing - life here's not too bad"
This morning I receive an e-mail from a friend of mine who arrived in the place we're heading 6 months ago and is having a superb time. All very positive. So now I'm back on the rails again.

Also, it helps to treat everyone the same, no matter what your colour is.

The crosses and flowers at the side of main roads are alarming when you first get here; many are youngsters. I can only guess the peer pressure on teenagers to get into a mates car when it's socially acceptable, or they're stuck for a ride home (given the distances in Aus).

Yep, seem to be very 'socialy acceptable' - I tend to get myself 'all worked up' when i hear or see them doing their burnouts, but the man doesnt flinch - its something he grew up with, the main attraction in his teens being cruising around perth trying to look cool (haha), and the fact that he didnt do the 'hoon-thing' was probably only due to the lack of power in cars in those days (must add that he is a very 'respectable' driver now - dont want to portray him as an over-the-hill-hoon). He can't see why it pisses me off...
I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that cars are still such a status-symbol here (though i have never thought 'big car - small d... as much as since i came to perth) - in holland we cant get our license till we're 18, at least 30 lessons at 40 euro's each, and as most of us are in still in school or in uni at that age, there's no way that we've got the money to own our own car at that age - so we get our first car when we finish uni, by which time the boys' testosteron-levels have dropped dramatically and the need to hoon probably isnt there anymore...
dont know if that is an explanation, dont really care what their reasons are - they still piss me off!!!

Hi Renth,
Just sent you a pm. We had a bit of an incident just after we moved in, but didn't want to mention it on here as thought it was probably (and hopefully) and isolated incident.
Crikey. Had really been concentrating on Ocean Reef to buy, but now not so sure........
Has Mindarie had any similar problems do you know?

Apart from the murder last year (very unfortunate but could have happened anywhere) then I haven't heard of much problem there. The car park at Quinns Beach used to attract a lot of youngsters but they have started closing that off at 10pm.

She was a recently arrived British migrant and was drinking in the Boat at Mindarie Harbour, She was either with this bloke or he followed her out.
It's quite rare though.
One thing that seems to happen a lot is people going missing, clearly they've been murdered because the cops often find blood and stuff but the bodies are never found.
