It's all of a same really in economy, as most of us travel. The seat pitches on these flights are all the same (distance to the seat in front) it's really on the charter airlines that fly to the US and within europe package holidays that shrink it. But I do wonder with the looming price war in asia about to break out if that might change ?
You pay your money, sit still for 22 hours in a pressurized aluminium tube (with a non survivable outside air temperature) and hope for the best

Same as I use Qantas I guess, good experiences in the past, FF points, use of Lounges, the things that make the flight better.
Many people on here swear by Emirates but I'd have to be drugged and unconcious before I'd travel with them again.
Equally I've never travelled SIngapore but know a lot of people who do, including my family, and they come highly rated for dealing with kids.

Not exactly a recommendation is it? Rather just a list of airlines

Singapore all the way for me. We flew on the upper deck on the A380 and the difference was significant in terms of space and comfort. Also there are far fewer people in economy upstairs than downstairs so you get far more attention, faster meals etc The difference in price between Singapore and then next airline was about £100 so not enough to make us go elsewhere.

Highly recommended!

Singapore Airlines now has A380s with all business class upper decks and I believe these fly the London route...so there may be no more upper deck flying for economy.

Any airline is safer than taking a cruise in the Med with an Italian captain looking to show off

You may see competative prices from Etihad. DONT! bother. We will probably go Singapore for a return visit. Emirates I`ve heard good things but they own Etihad so don`t know. And Cathay Pacific brought us here drama free. Apart from me loosing myself and where abouts of wife and kids in Hong Kong airport but that was my fault.

Best airline awards 2011 by Skytrax - Singapore 2, Cathay 4, Thai 5, Emirates 10................just for interest. No 1 - Qatar However a different awards put Emirates at 1 so go figure!!

We flew Cathay and have for years but still prefer Singapore with kids. Ours were that age when we flew to Australia and we flew Cathay as we wanted to stop in Hong Kong. The planes they use HK-Brisbane have smaller seats and aren't the most comfortable.

I would try and get a deal with Singapore.......Changi airport is great with kids if you have a long layover too.

The one that always surprises me is Malaysian being given 5 stars by Skytrax. I have flown with them a couple of times and they are really nothing special at all. Perfectly fine for the price (cheap!) but old planes and entertainment systems, and crew and service only so-so. A lot of comments on the Skytrax forum share these sentiments.

I can only go by my most recent experiences with Malaysian. Kl to London return last August and KL to Melbourne return at Christmas. On all legs the aircraft were brand spanking new. We travelled with 2 kids under 5 and the stewards were really good. KL to London we were given an additional seat for free for our 18 month old which meant we didnt have to carry her on our lap. The only potential hiccups were that we didnt specifically book childrens meals for them. Since they knew we were travelling with children I thought this wuld have been obvious but no. However, I always take on a huge amount of food for the kids with me to keep them quiet so wasnt a problem for us.

KL - London flights go on 747 which are about 10 years old at the youngest. They might have had a cabin refurb but I doubt very recently because they are still behind the pack when it comes to inflight entertainment etc.

Having flown quantas every week for 2 years i avoid them like the plague. My wife arrived back in the UK yesterday after ignoring my advise not to use them and first thing she said was yep, i was right.
Brunie are also ok if you dont mind the fact there is no booze served.
