When do the AirAsia flights get in and leave?

OK, checked and the majority of flights are during daylight so those shuttles work. You can never be too sure

Main problem from my point of view is that they only fly from arse-end of nowhere airports like Melbourne, Gold Coast and Perth.

Which is odd because before they started it was always assumed the first service would be Newcastle - wrong side of Sydney but I guess it could've worked for you?

Closer than Melb, that's for sure. Ideal one for me would be the Illawara regional airport at Albion Park (Wollongong). Runway's more than capable of taking the aircraft, I imagine the rates would be low too.

Wouldn't be worried about the distance of the airport in KL, it is SE Asian after all - a taxi would probably only be a few dollars.

Out of curiosity I just did some rough costings on flying Stanstead to the Gold Coast compared to LHR to BNE with Singapore airlines. Both return. Remember to add in some luggage and a meal.

Singapore airlines were cheaper. Low cost carrier my arse. :eek

It's actually a looooooong way. However there are loads of coaches which run to the KL Sentral train station which cost RM9 each way - about $3.

According to this:

Air Asia X..........plans to launch daily Sydney services (using its high-density configured A330s) on 26 October 2009.

Article prepared May 2009 but haven't heard anything else about this.
