Hi there .. Hopefully some one on here may have had the same trouble as me and found a solution.
I keep getting bitten. Not sure what it is though as I never see it. Some folk say it is a sand fly.. or mosquito. The thing is that I come up in lumps. I take a reaction to it.
It looks like something has punctured my skin and you can see the poison as it swells up.
I bought some cream today to try and alleviate the symptoms but any ideas how to prevent it other than plastering myself with a spray with chemicals in it ..
So please anyone got any ideas.. I am worried that it will get worse in the Summer..

Bushman has worked for me. Not keen on using that though if I am pregnant this summer.
The cream I use really helps. Its a basic four in one from the chemist. Antihistamine, anti inflammatory, antiseptic and anesthetic. This gives me light relief and if that fails I normally have to take a tablet at night to get some sleep. Normally anything above 5 bits in one hit will be enough to need this.
You could also try a zapper from the chemist straight after the bite. It does stop them becoming quite so angry.
Hope someone else can help.

I get eaten too - Stingose is the only thing that helps me. And the red tiger balm can be soothing. Some people play around with vitamin B supplements, they reckon that affects our 'smell'

Hi all,
I never used to be tasty to insects. We tend to eat a fair bit of garlic. The last time (jan) I was in oz I stayed with mum and ate her diet which was decidely less garlicky then my normal diet. I got bitten to death one night (there had been severe weather and lot's of flooding) and ended up with ross river virus. sheer agony for around 2 months.
Oh well they say once you have had it you are immune.

Hi,
It has been said before, so sorry for repeating this, but Avon skin so soft moisturiser is great for deterring the devils from biting.
The clickers are good, I'm told, for alleviating the symptoms once bitten.
I'm sure if you search for the thread you can find information on both of these.
Hope that helps.
Thanks.

If you're getting bitten then either stay inside, cover all skin or use an insect repellent (Aerogard or Off). Mozzies don't just bite here they carry diseases - Ross River fever, Denge etc.
Are you using sunscreen? That's a chemical as well, but you'd be silly not to use it here.
Tea tree oil, Tiger Balm etc are just as much chemicals as tested branded products. They just have pretty names and are 'natural'. Other 'natural' things Hemlock, henbane, castor oil plant - would you want to eat them? All natural things are chemicals. Please try to think it through.

Yeh, I know that as well
I had a millipede fall off my hat inside my collar and down inside my clothes
That's like getting a continuous trail of bites along its path. Along with Stingose, Stopitch and antihistamines I found I NEEDED continuous ice-packs

As a good deterrent from insect bites, try using Detol mixed with baby oil 50/50mixture.(shake well before applying)
I live in the bush, all the locals use it as it works out a lot cheaper than off the shelf remedies.
It may not smell so sweet, but it works.

Just buy a sprayer from Bunnings for a couple of bucks.. then some gold & blacks cheap baby oil and gold & blacks cheap detol equivalent... put it in 50:50 and a few drops of oil.. shake before use.. your legs and arms will feel oooh sooo smooth too! LOL!
