Oh OK, we'll as I said financial benefit isn't the purpose of our return to the UK, there are many reasons behind our decision. I'm happy for anyone who is better off here or indeed anywhere, of course it has absolutely no bearing on our life but it's great if someone is happier or richer or whatever. For us there is much more to our life than money and I have never been motivated by money.

Where did I say that ? I said that the reason for our return was not financial, I have at no time said the COL isn't a factor, I have actually said before that the lower COL is a bonus. It isn't really confusing at all when you know all the facts

There will be loads, so much that you'll need a wheelbarrow to carry it instead of a wallet. Except the wheelbarrow will be worth more than the money is contains.

Out of interest Chris, where do you live right now, what town ? The reason I'm asking is that I read another thread this morning, where you said that there was a massive fight outside your house (stabbing involved?) and that friends of yours had moved to Dalby for a safer environment.
For me anyway, where I live affects how happy I am. There are plenty of areas in both Australia and the UK that I would choose to avoid, as living there would certainly get me down.
cheers

We live in Shailer Park on the Southside of Brisbane, a very nice usually quiet area. Don't worry about the fight, apparently my wife and I must have imagined it all as it couldn't possibly have happened In fact it was extremely scary having it literally unfold right outside the house but if it could happen where we are it really could happen anywhere.
Yes our friends got a transfer to Dalby as he didn't want his kids growing up in the area they lived. He is a cop so he obviously gets to see ALL of what happens and not just what we see on the news and in the paper. They lived fairly close to us but not the same area.
I agree where you live can have a massive affect on your state of mind and well being. We actually really like where we live and to be fair the incidents we have witnessed in the 10 years we have been here can be counted on the fingers of one hand.

of course if you're using current exchange rates the COL in Australia is "high."
it's the unquantifiable things that matter to me...
