Not if you don't have anything to claim for!!!
I work a 9-5 job and there is nothing, not one single work related expense I can claim for, we have no kids, we own our own home and have no mortgage, our tax is as straightforward as they come. The only thing we have are our savings which we end up having to pay tax on. Its far easaier for me to do my own tax rather than waste the time of an accountant who will more than likely end up with the same result, a big fat bill!

What can I tell you? He's an accountant with 30yrs experience and has people queuing up to use his services. I guess I'll have to tell him, that he needs to charge five times as much, before he can be considered a 'professional'?

I don't know his business model, but $60 for a tax return is to my mind undervaluing oneself, and is (I suggest) at odds with the fees most professionally qualified people charge.
Indeed, at that rate I'm not surprised there are people queuing to use his services. Whether a professional service - by which I mean timely and accurate outcomes, and adding value to the process - can be sustained when there are large numbers of client tax returns to deliver will be evident over time.
Best regards.
