I like the way Americans welcome home their troops.
On several occasions I've been in US airports, and an announcement has come over the announcement system that returning servicemen were arriving at gate X and inviting anybody to go and welcome them home. I went along to see if anybody went. Plenty did. For those with memories of coming home after Viet Nam, it must be some kind of closure...

I also like the way that they are recognized at various places we go - Seaworld being the most obvious, but others as well. It never hurts for a gentle reminder and recognition now and then of what some folk are going through in service for their country. I do sometimes wonder how that would translate into a British setting - I know my nephew was thoroughly embarrassed at Seaworld when they recognized US and (specifically) UK forces and allies!

Atlanta airports a great place to see this, they applaud the troops, you can hear the applause all the way through the whole airport as they walk through it.

I've heard about that but never witnessed it. I have heard service personnel recognized on South West flights, which I thought was nice.
