In the old days people used to tame them and ride them, use them as draft animals. They're extremely graceful. I have a moose heart in my fridge.

Article gives a bit of history of moose and New Foundland, moose are not native to the island and were introduced in 1904, and by 1945 the island had more moose then they would ever need.

Santa once considered moose power for his sledge but after several trial runs involving the beasts they tended to overshoot whole blocks of chimneys due to sheer pulling power and braking distance
