They were discussing on Radio 4 this lunchtime that it will probably be another Clinton/Bush fight.

My completely uneducated guess would be Hillary has it, there is more angst towards the Bush name than the Clinton name?

It does seem weird that we are back talking about what flavour of shit sandwich you prefer, when it seems any half credible candidate would walk it.

Female candidates always seem to draw the harshest criticism, even from other women.

Just look at Maggie.

However I think Hilary goes well beyond a gender issue.

Half credible candidates are too sensible to run for president.

What I seem to have observed (particularly with the Obama presidency, I think it was being hinted at with Bush Jr) is the falling significance of the president. Who actually runs the country? It seems more power lies with congress. If they like the president he is their puppet, if they don't then it's gridlock. When you consider that most local races are so gerrymandered this gridlock is likely to continue.

I liked the cut of Elizabeth Warren's jib, but she has already stated that she isn't going to run.

Having been an elected official I am seriously concerned about the way she used her personal email for official matters. The lengths I had to go to to make sure anything I did on city business either went to and from the city servers, or if it was a letter copies went to the City Recorder.

For her to have acted in the way she did, and to have decided for herself which emails to delete seriously calls into question her integrity. On that alone she is unfit to hold any public office.

For me it is the cumulative effect.

Hillary didn't have the integrity to resign when Obama didn't follow her guidance in foreign affairs (assuming she give any guidance whatsoever), she exhibited no integrity when she lied to the bereaved family of the ambassador and the others who died in Benghazi (claiming that the cause of that disaster was the video no one had seen rather than her failure to order proper security for that consulate), and she exhibited no integrity when she used her own email server rather than government email servers for official business. Oh, let's not forget her story of being broke and having her Foundation take tens of millions of dollars from foreign governments and donors while serving as our foreign minister.

Her major qualification for President is that, not unlike half the population, she does have a vagina. She should make an ideal President.

Perhaps in the UK & Europe.... and some the rest of the world, where Obama is still popular too.

Here in the US, she never seemed particularly popular until Bill fell from grace so spectacularly. Now that he's out of office and she's the politically prominent one, he's been forgiven but she's viewed with suspicion again....

Except he didn't really fall from grace... he faced down impeachment, was found not guilty and ended up with a higher approval rating at the end of his term than any other modern president.

Having said that, I do think the (Bill) Clinton haters have transferred their hate to Hiliary. This was one reason why I was quite pleased to see Obama get the nomination in '08, so as to avoid a re-run of the 90's nonsense. In retrospect, Obama is probably more hated by some than Clinton was, and Hiliary would likely have been a better president than Obama...
