I guess its me thats changed because my home town of leicester hasnt changed much and yet it just looks a lot worse to my eyes.

Its hard to explain, the streets and houses are obviously small and more cramped looking and its been strange getting a car on the road and driving around here again. The more places I go the more crappy it seems

Its just after having seen so much incredible stuff in australia I am struggling to adjust again.
Going in country pubs that are tiny and like someones living room for a drink, when I think I could be in a massive casino instead.

I am wondering why I came back, and trying to fight the urge to jump on a plain back to aus.

Has anyone had a similiar feeling?

This thread shows how different peoples experiences are. I totally hated living in the USA. I found the greed and selfish attitude to be disgusting. ( no offense ) all the really fat people shoveling down fast food while driving, the huge pointless Hummer trucks, every town with the same fast food, the same stores like walmart and target that all look the same, the stupid mid west america attitude and small minded racist idiots who i suffered through for near 4 years. I hated it so much. I had 2 cars and better weather, big TV's etc etc and i sold it all to come home. I would not change it for the world.
Right now it is grey and raining and very windy. I love it.

I'm envious. It's 90 degrees here - we just went for an afternoon out walking round Princeton University and it was so hot I am drained. I just want to sleep for the rest of the day now. Can't wait to be back where 65 degrees is considered a warm day

It's over 90 degrees here and very humid and it's supposed to get hotter later in the week. I hate the extreme weather here - the bitter cold and snowy winters and the hot as hell summers!!

One of the things I hate the most here is the hot-dog eating contest on 4th July - I think it is held in Coney Island, NY. What a disgusting spectacle - people just stuffing their faces with food!!!!

I cant wait to go home and enjoy the cool weather. No big extremes like here in the US. Like many of you I am melting in this awful humid heat. Over 90degree's my flowers are all wilting. I shall have to go out tonight and water them. Off course I will get bitten to death by the mosquitoes which are in a bundance at the moment plus the flying biting horse fly's.

Well I did come back to Perth after the month in england. I have now spent the last few months working back at my previous job and now have got cheesed off with Perth again and I am thinking of going back to the UK!.

I have just got this feeling of not fitting in here, of being an outsider. Although I have some work friends who I get along with great they are not as close as uk friends who shared similiar backgrounds and theres always a bit of a disconnected feeling.

I get sick of being the english guy, the pom or even the bloody pom as I have heard sometimes.
I dont feel thrilled about the idea of going back to england really, although maybe if I didnt stay with family and tried a different area I might have more luck this time.

I dont know, I am starting to think I dont belong in either place!, I am very confused and wish I had never come out to aus to start with to be honest.

I think you maybe a "yo yo er" so to speak !
I have friends that have been to and from Canada to the UK,many times before they settled.Infact they did come back to Canada, but said they would not retire here. They said they will give it another few years and move again. So maybe thats what you might do.It is what we might do also,we plan on going back in 4 weeks, but i have my doubts.Hopfully we will settle in,but who knows ????

Unfortunately you now have "the curse of the ex-pat" not feeling you fit in anywhere. That's a horrible feeling - but many of us have it. Not sure what the solution is..........................

I honestly think the solution is to make a decision, stick to it and work at making your life the best it can be.

I'm sure that sounds easier than it really is, but when we get married, we don't immediately start thinking about 'the one that got away' and wondering if being married to him/her would be better. Or if we do, our marriage won't be very successful!

Here's the newsflash: when we all move back to the UK, we will feel out of place. It will be difficult. We will feel like we don't fit in - because we don't! Fitting in takes effort and time. So instead of thinking about the other place when things get tough, we have to treat the move like a marriage and work at it.

If we do that, one day, we will realize we finally do fit in.

Well put Sally ( as usual ) dave I know you are from "Lesta"... it must seem very different to what you have in Perth, I am moving back there in 5 weeks after 14 years in the USA... i am expecting it to be tough but I have never had that not fitting in feeling, so maybe it wont be as bad. "Lesta" has changed a lot over the years, I have lived in a very rural part of the US so I know I am in for culture shock.
I think you will need to give it longer in which ever place you decide to go to. It will take a couple of years to get back into UK living.
Good luck.
