The most stressful move EVER - well so far...
#48
There is only so far you can go with planning things and my Mum passing last Friday was not planned, I had hoped to let her know how our move went and to reassure her that things were going to be ok, instead my sister and I spent last week lying to her telling her how wonderful everything is right now and how smooth things were going.
Oh poop, sorry for the rant, today is a BAD day. Funeral is not until 3rd of July, so the anxiety will continue for a bit longer.
Oh well back to putting on the happy face, off to the hairdressers in a bit, can't cremate me Mum with me roots showing now can I?

Well if that's what he meant then he is an ass
There was a lot of planning that went into our move and everything was good until my husband became ill, since then it's been a huge struggle to get anything done and as for leaky taps and different connections, who would know until things arrived?

Sorry to hear about your mum. I lost my dad to cancer (brain tumour) in March, so know how you're feeling.

Hopefully he can make it over in the autumn. The clock is ticking as he is getting on a bit.

So sorry to hear about your Mum PP, hope you enjoy your new home.

Can he not fly with a hernia then? (My Mum bless her, did last year). I hope he gets his operation quick so he can be healed enough for a trip in the Autumn. It's really tough when you know loved ones are ill and you can't even hug 'em.

They offered to have him in that day in fact but I think he is arranging shortly (BUPA)

Sorry to hear about your mum.
My moving experience last week.
1. Movers turn up two hours late.
2. $50 per hour plus $50 somehow becomes a $690 charge for 5 hours (they tell us this when they arrive with all our stuff in their van, why yes they need payment before unloading, cash only naturally).
3. Elavator was double booked in our new building. Someone else moving in at the same time.
4. My new keyfob doesn't work so I cant get into the building/ out of the parking lot, this took five days to get a working one after four visits to the renters office.
5. New apartment was freshly painted (good), but hadn't been aired out at all (bad) they even painted inside all the cabinets and drawers with gloss paint, so our dog vomited alot as did I while sleeping on the second night.
6. No key for the bike room as requested, so we had to piss off our neighbours even move by taking them up the lift that night after a really long day. Then when we get a key we find there no room in there at all.
7. Front door lock to our apartment was so stff it took a few minutes to lock/unlock every time.
8. Our parking spot in the garage was already allocated to another residents car, took four days until we had our own spot (which we are paying extra for).
9. After waiting in all day for a phone technitian (8am to midnight we were helpfully told), it turns out they didn't even need to enter the apartment and didnt bother telling us. The phoneline however is line is dead so it required a tech to come and flick a switch somewhere in the building the next day (another day inside waiting, and a possible $90 charge if it's not their fault).
10. First attempt at using the microware blew the socket surge protecter thingy, but it wouldn't reset so we had nowhere in the kitchen to plug in the kettle/toaster for days.
11. Buy air conditioner after much research, get the monsterously heavy thing home, find we have to buy some extra stuff to MacGuyver it into the right position in the window. Discover it doesnt work properly, the fan rubs the housing so it made a huge racket. return it two days later (my back needed a day to recover) only to find theres no other of that type in stock. End up getting a more expensive but less effective portable instead
But things are working themselves out, and I'm just so relived that we have a place of our own after 26 months on living with my dad and my mother inlaw. I just need to catch up on lost sleep now.
