I don't think the police really will make the connection that you also have a UK drivers license. Otherwise they'd have to add points to every John Smith's license all the time :).

I just had to go back to the UK last month and my UK drivers license has expired also. I rented a car using my US license, no problem at all. I don't think having a UK license would have made it any...
