In London some streets seem to be all genuine independents, and other streets nothing but chains.

My bank's branch in a nearby town used to have two ATMs, one inside and one drive up. They took out the inside one, so now pedestrians must use the drive up one.

Regardless, if I see "pie a la mode" in a menu, I'm afraid I always think of tripe and Caen!

Yeah but the fact that the typical temperatures in England just now are forty or fifty degrees (Fahrenheit) higher than in northern New York State make up for short daylight hours & a bit of fog!

I never thought of it that way but you're right. In England it gets light in the summer way before I want to get up - and I'm an early riser!

I've heard complaints, especially about domestic flights. But I've used AC for twenty years, mostly transatlantic but also domestic, they've always been very good and reliable - certainly streets...

So tickets originating in the UK are more expensive? High fees to use Heathrow, or what?

I use Air Canada, Ottawa to Heathrow, all the time and I think they have consistently excellent & reliable...

And yet, there are businesses that have a "cash only" policy. Mostly mom & pop diners and similar. This is in rural New York State. I assume they've decided the risk and hassle of handling large...
