Re: Time for another gun thread

I'd err....be happy for some volunteer to do the handling. But I'd want it further away than next door to think of it as someone elses problem.

Re: Time for another gun thread

Sounds like they waited a while, tried to call a snake expert. But I would not want a 15 foot snake in the yard, with pets never mind children.

Re: Time for another gun thread

I am being a bit Seattlecentric and matching public housing for public housing (which doesnt really match up for social level). Here the public housing is a bit good. But yes the private sector has...

Re: Time for another gun thread

We come to America with the cultural baggage that the world has hoisted upon us, and that might have been me, being paranoid, if my first job wasn't working in what is considered the dodgiest area of...

Re: Time for another gun thread

Is Sultan egg 'n' cress, or ham and Swiss?
If I was a sandwich I'd be ham, tomato and lettuce.

Re: Time for another gun thread

I think quite a lot (in American terms) was done across the states.
edit: never mind, a quick Google seems to indicate some States tightened and more loosened their gun laws.

Re: Time for another gun thread

If I can translate for Boiler:
Boiler wants us to know what he thinks, but he doesn't care if we believe what he thinks is true or not.

Re: Time for another gun thread

The next question is to ask you to cite credible references for a 'yes' to #2. That question is not answered by an opinion.

Re: Time for another gun thread

Three key questions.
1. Does the recreational benefit of guns out way the risk?
Life is a risk, so probably.
2. Do guns make you safer.
All the stats seem to indicate no.
3. Is your property...

Re: Time for another gun thread

Feeling safer is not the same as actually being safer.

The number of deaths from carjackings in the US is less than 15 a year, and as a male and presumably at least middleish affluence your risk...

Re: Time for another gun thread

Knife murders seem to be about a fifth of gun murders. It is in suicides that the big disparity happens, as guns are the big go to weapon, and slashing your wrists is nowhere near as common as...

Re: Time for another gun thread

The stats also seem to show that knifes are considerably safer than guns, for reasons that would seem to me to be obvious, but the rate of death by knife or other cutting implement is something like...

Re: Time for another gun thread

Reminds me of the Churchill quote about a woman being a prostitute, only haggling over the price. You are for violent solutions to petty social problems, only differing over the extent of the...

Re: Time for another gun thread

I suppose I am thinking that Doyles first mistake was owning a gun. As the stats seem to show that suicide and murder are more likely outcomes if you own a gun then if you don't.

Re: Time for another gun thread

If I was ever going to shoot someone it would probably be a person who followed me to my home and approached me. I think that would rattle me, as I don't have a gun, I would not be rattled enough to...
