re: Timeline For Spousal Sponsorship via London & Inland
You were very lucky. The document checklist and instructions are very clear, for spousal sponsorship they must be submitted at the start, and if docs are missing then the whole application is usually just returned.
I'd also assume it has delayed things, even if only by a few weeks. Just CIC sending you the letter and waiting for you to submit the missing docs will have added to the timescale.
I'm really surprised any lawyer is advising their clients to submit incomplete applications!

It will have delayed things though, the time that CIC had to chase your lawyer and wait for the missing info is time when they could have started processing your app, but it presumably wasn't a long time they had to wait so don't worry about it.

Crossed over into the US and back today to get my PR activated.
First mistake was deciding it would be a good idea to go into the US for a few hours and do some shopping/have some lunch. After sitting for about 90 minutes just to get to the Peace Bridge I end up with Captain Anal at the American booths literally checking ever car top to bottom and taking forever. Finally get up front and not even so much as a grunt before he started laying into me for having one of those expired green card things they give you. Been into the US multiple times over the years and never "handed them in" but you'd have thought I was a war criminal. It was actually a few weeks out of date maximum. I had to try hard not to laugh when he said i'd have to "prove" I left the US. I pointed out the Canadian stamp underneath the card showing the date I re-entered Canada but stopped short of explaining how I was driving towards the US from inside Canada and thus had left the US at some point previous to our encounter...
Shown inside their building as per usual (being a foreigner) and sat for about 2 hours waiting to get relieved of my $6 and allowed to be on my way. It is August and it is Saturday so it wasn't too much of a surprise really that it was busy.
Bought a few nice pairs of trainers though once I finally got to Buffalo.
Going back, again as per usual, a far more civilised affair. Took maybe 15 minutes to get up to the booth as they had about 12 stations open. The yanks seem to operate about 7. Canadian border guards can speak. They don't mess you around or give you the inquisition. Shown inside a building where the waiting time was about 3 minutes to get seen. Fairly serious but still pleasant chap behind the desk asked a few questions - sign here - don't lose this form - wait a few weeks for your PR card - congratulations you're a PR - see ya. Took about 5 minutes total. Felt sorry for a group of Indians next to me though. They'd clearly made a mess of something and weren't getting very far despite having their COPRs just the same as me.

Can I ask something?
I thought I read that once the "sponsor" had been approved, the "sponsored" could get a temp work perm pending PR... did I misread that?

So... my son wants to sponsor his girlfriend... she is here on a visitors visa after her IEC running out. He is PR. They are both in Toronto. So he can apply to sponsor her and apply at the same time for a TWP for her?

Info is in the Wiki, which should help him compare both routes - http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Spousa...sorship-Canada

Thank you. It's still confusing as she will need to go back to the uk just after they apply so they would not be strictly speaking living together then so I have to work out how they get around that...

Her first IEC ran out in May this year. I have no idea what she/they did but she didn't get a 2nd. I think they messed up somewhere...
She can't reapply in January as she has to have been away from the uk for no more than 18 months i believe...also she has spent the money she has to have to prove she can support herself.

7. What is the residency requirement?
Please note that the residency requirement for U.K. applicants has changed. Applicants are no longer required to demonstrate that they have lived continuously in the United Kingdom for the past three years.

Only other viable options are getting an employer to apply for an LMO or apply for a 2nd IEC in 2014. Rules changed regarding the 18 months
