Hi
I am also a mining engineer with 18 years experience in opencut coal and wondered if you have any first hand experience you can pass on with regards to job hunting? Although there appears to be loads of work I cannot fathom why it seems so hard to get a job offer? I am looking for sponsorship so I suppose that works against me, but that aside I expected more positive responses than I have been getting to date.
Thanks

Contact Wayde Andrews at Talent2, [email protected],
He's based out of Brisbane, I work in Perth and we both deal with Rio Tinto BHP etc dependant on where you want to be based from we can help.
457 sponsorship shouldn't be a problem.
Regards.

I talked to Nigel and I told him he might be getting an email from you. We didn't have a long conversation since he was driving at the time. But he did seem like he was interested in hearing from you and might be able to help a little bit. He seemed to have some awareness of sponsored visas, so he wasn't immediately scared off talking to you.
He did say he is looking to fill one more job with QERL (Queensland Energy Resources Limited). My husband just got a job there. They are based in downtown Brisbane.
So, definitely send him an email. It wouldn't hurt and who knows what might happen. Nigel is a great guy and he's one of the two people who took any interest in my husband after we arrived. So I think very highly of him.
I should mention that Denise Cole (posted previously) was also very helpful. Unfortunately at the time my husband was looking for a job they weren't able to put him forward to any companies. They may be building up contacts now though.

Hello,
Thanks for the mention HC... really appreciate it, sorry we were unable to help at that stage, but pleased to hear that RC has found a role... I hope you have settled in well
Not been on this site for a while, as I have been doing a round robin of our offices nationally and looking at the areas of greatest need.... needless to say there are skill shortages across the board nationally.
Very keen to speak to any Engineers whether it be Mining, mining infrastructure, Civil, Manufacturing etc.
As previously posted, I head up the International Recruitment and Sourcing for Tanner Menzies, so please feel free to drop me a line and I will help where I can, or point you in the right direction.
Best regards
Denise ([email protected])

Thanks for the assistance given back in June and apologies for not posting these thanks sooner.
I may have found a company who wants me and are prepared to sponsor aswell - early stages but so far so good.
Should this not come to fruition then I will certainly contact those people in your posts - so once again thank you for your help and advice.

Good to hear you're making some progress. Any idea where you would end up working in Australia?

It all depends on visa timescales - but if all goes well and I get a concrete offer they reckon anywhere from 4 to 6 months.
I also have another interview next week so maybe I might have a choice?!

Thanks for the info - I will look into it.

Sorry I misread your question - I could end up anywhere from the Hunter Valley in NSW, Brisbane or anywhere in Queensland!!! My career has been spent on coal sites so I guess I will finish up where the coal is!

All those places are good. Personally, I'd opt for either Hunter Valley or Brisbane if you can. The mines in Nort East Queensland are a few hours inland, so more remote and would be more of a mining town.
Good luck with the jobs, I hope everything works out well for you. I'm glad to see you didn't give up.

Just to let you all know that I have received a great job offer to work in Queensland and that I will be accepting this offer - subject to 457 visa of course. It was a long time coming but lets hope the wait was worthwhile!

I am hoping to move i think to brisbane,or my second option will be perth, but brisbane prefered,i am a pipefitter and i know there are lots of work in w.a. but what about queensland i have heard there is also lots of work there also in the mines etc.
Can anyone give me some places online, companies and anything they see in papers relating to work in oz for my trade,so i can get a database together and when i finally get there try them with c.v's etc.
I am used to working in the oil and gas industry here in the uk on the oil rigs and on site.
I am waiting for a reply to my tra and if passed also to apply for visa.
If all fails with tra or visa which i hope not then i will want to try and get sponsorship.
