i am 39, had 18 years hairdressing exp, i been out of hairdressing for 4 years (although i did get a sponser last year in oz but due to unforseen circumstances we came back to the uk its a long story and is in another thread), we are keen to go back but this time on our own terms, i restarted hairdressing 1 month ago self-employed, we want to apply for independent skills in 12 months time, would this be enough time

hiya, by self employed i take it you mean mobile?if so you have to prove you have worked for 3 out of the last 4 yrs for at least 20hrs,although i did hear someone say that the rules had changed,so it might be a good idea to ask on the migration forum, they ll now,but you do have to send more info if your mobile, believe me i had pages of it.

good luck ,where are you heading.

tracey.

hi alfi i think it would be enough unless you needed the extra points for specific work experience 3 out of 4 years but 12 months out of 18 is all that is required i think!

Do you already have your TRA? I am assuming you have as I see you worked for T&G. If not then you should start that now.
The specific work experience may be a problem, unless you have worked 3 out of last 4 years. However if you have not been out of work for more than a year in total in the last 4 (doing anything that appears on SOL) maybe you could get spec exp points. Your age may be a problem too as at 40 you loose another 5 points.
So I see it like this.. occupation 60 points
Age 20 points now, at 40 15 points
English 20 points
specific work experience 0 ?
MODL 15 points
Bonus points ??? How long did you work for T&G. 6 months in a skilled occupation in Aus and you get 5 points or invest 100000 AUD and get 5 points.
Ok so you may not make a 136 visa on points but providing things dont change you could apply to SA, VIC or TAS for state nomination STNI 137, still a PR but you must live in the nominating state for 2 years.
Most importantly if you are self employed KEEP EVERYTHING now as you will need to prove what you have been doing and get an accountant. As you said you need the 12 months out of 18 and you have to prove it.
I wish you luck. Thats how the info all reads to me.
