Hi Donna,
I don't kow what the regs are in Ireland but I have had to train to NVQ leve 2 here to get recognised as a hairdresser. I am the opposit to you though I don't have any experience. However it does say on the TRA website that you don't need qualis if you can prove you are competent. look on
www.workplace.gav.au and follow the link for workplace or soemthing like TRA assessments. This will tell you all you need to know.
I hope I have been of some help good luck

You need an NVQ2 to be recognised as a hairdresser although you can do it without the qualification if you have enough experience. I don't know how long this is but I'm sure if you hunt the tra website it'll be on there somewhere. As for working as a hairdresser when you get to Oz, No you don't have to, although if you need a job to bring in some money there are plenty of hairdressing jobs about.

My sister has just got over there as a nurse and she says that she is not doing that job when she lands. I think that it is for the sake of being skilled. What you do when you get there is up to you. You can be a brain specialist if you want! lol
Hope this helps look on the link I sent

Re: Irish Hairdresser
You use your hairdressing quals to get skills assessed by TRA. Once they are assessed you apply in Adelaide to migrate. Once this is accepted you go to Oz and do what you like be it work or not. If you decide to work as a hairdresser you have to get licensed which I believe means doing a bit of practical work and being assessed on it although there are views this doesn't need to be done-I'm hoping so, it'll be like being back at college!! If you don't intend to work that is fine, you've been able to enter Oz as a skilled worker, you do not have to work as one if you use the skilled independant route.
Hope this helped, Marie.

They do check up Marie!
They may not have checked up on yours but they do check otherwise you would be able to put any cock and bull. As the migration agents say they have a team of people checking this all the time.
