Hi Everyone,

I am a british female architect registered with the RIBA here and Im thinking about relocating to austraila seriously due to lack of job prospects here.

I have not be employed per say with a practice here , but I have been working for myself over the last two years- doing planning applications e.t.c for friends and family. I have been trained on Revit, and last used it in practice about 2yrs ago.

I am keen to here from people who have made the move or those who can offer any advice on the process, and where to start looking. The good thing is I dont have a family so its just for myself.

Doing planning applications, etc? Filling out forms you mean..? Care to elaborate on other things you have done, might help to give more useful advice. Architects are in need in Oz last time I checked..mind you, doesn't take much observation to see why.

Revit is valuable if you know it, even in the UK..it might just land you a job.

Before you can apply for skilled migration, you will have to obtain a positive skills assessment from the AACA. You will also need to score sufficient points on the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC)'s points test, and provide evidence of recent employment - this link is to the landing page for DIAC's information about the points test and general eligibility. If you click on each link on the lhs of the table, you can find out more about DIAC's requirements and the evidence you need to provide.

There are a number of categories of skilled immigration, including state sponsored and regional sponsored, and options for employer sponsorship (one of which does not require a skills assessment); both temporary and permanent which have different eligibility requirements, so it would be a good idea to use DIAC's Visa Wizard as a starting point, to give you a general idea of your options.

Try getting in touch with Bespoke. It's an agency that has jobs going in Australia. Having said that, you might not be experienced enough for the kind of jobs they're recruiting for. Good luck.
