Smile Thinking of moving to Oz

Hi

I am new to this website, so please be gentle on me!!! MY husband and myself are thinking of moving to Australia looking more think Western Australia. My Husband is a Mental Health Nurse and we new Australia are looking for Nurses We are wanting a better life for us and our kids and better prospects for our kids who are aged 7, 4 and 1.

Just looking to see what people think of whether it is a good idea or not, and how big a change it will be. Also looking to find out about things such as Health Care, Education, Renting, Cost of living, getting things on credit etc.

Look forward to hearing from you all.

Hello...welcome to BE.

If you click here it will direct you to our Australia forums. Please post any questions you have about Australia in there. We have many members who live down under and they should be able to help you with any queries you have. Good luck.

I moved to Brisbane. I love it. I have lived all over the world, grew up in Canada and feel as if I have finally arrived. There is socioeconomic diversity though and hope you relocate to an area where you feel comfortable.

If moving to WA you have to register again here and sit another English exam -it was another 300 dollars. Nursing is way behind and i made the mistake of not getting a sponsored visa because when i got here it took another 5 months to get registered. We have moved here 10 months ago with my 3 children - ket me know if you want any other info. Oh by the way i am a mental health nurse as well. My name is Evelyn.
Luckily my husband has agood job in IT so we not worried about me working yet. i work in addiction so have scouted around as to what is available, they seem to be about 10 years behind the way i worked in Scotland.
I can give you the highs and the lows. The kids are way ahead when it came to putting them in school. My youngest is 4 and we came out here she was in nursery 5 morning a week. We moved here to find nothing for her. We ended up paying afortune to get her into Kindie. We pay $1300 a year for 2 and a half days a week.We still done have health care sorted yet but we reckon its going to cost about $200 a. month. We also pay $3000 dollars ayear in school fees because the kids are in Catholic schools. My twins are 9 and they are so ahead in school i also pay for extra tuition 2 nights a week. The WA education system just isnt great.
On the positive my husband loves it here and loves his job. We love the weather and the beaches and parks are fab. Kids enjoy an outdoor life when i take them out but i have found the kids in Australia actually dont go out to play and i am finding this difficult as my kids played outside at home all the time - well weather permitting.
