Hi, and welcome to the forum!
As suggested, post again in the France forum, mentioning for those who don't know, that Orthez is in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques!
Can't help on the local front, but give us some more info on your situation (working? inactive? retired? children? owners/tenants?...) Take a look in the Read-Me: Moving to France FAQs above, and if we can help with questions on French Administration, etc..., don't hesitate to ask!
P.S. Advice applicable all over France - ask for a list of Clubs and Associations at your Mairie. You can join a few (walking/cycling clubs, among others) and meet people with the same interests.
