I moved back to the UK from the US last year. I will reach retirement age in a few years. I have 23 years paid in to the social security in the US and currently 10 years in the UK. I need to know how the process works for getting my social security over to the UK and will I have to pay income tax on the US pension? I have been on the site for hours reading and am more confused than when I started... What is WEP? and how does it affect the pensions...Please could somebody help..thanks

Hi Katy
Welcome to BE. We have an excellent US forum and retirement benefits, as you discovered, are heavily talked about.
WEP will affect your social security benefits (not called a pension in the US but benefit) if you were still in the US. Unsure if it will affect you drawing it while you are living abroad.
