Default Hi! Moving to Scotland

Hi All,

I am a British Citizen who has lived in South Africa since I was a child and am now moving to Edinburgh in January next year with my South African wife.

Hoping to be able to use this forum to pic up some tips on both moving to the UK and resolving my wifes visa.

Does your wife have any European ancestry (for example Irish) that would enable her to get an EU passport? This would make things a lot easier.

Also, if one of your wife's grandparents was born in the UK, she can apply for an Ancestry visa. This visa is easier to apply than a spouse visa. Please see link below -

https://www.gov.uk/ancestry-visa/overview

If the above routes do not apply to the OP's wife, then she will need an UK spouse visa in order to move to the UK with the OP. The link below gives you an overview as to the requirements for an UK spouse visa.

https://www.gov.uk/join-family-in-uk/overview

Put it in simple terms, the OP will either need £62,500 in savings or a job in the UK with wages at £18,600 p.a. or above for six months in order to meet the financial requirement. There are other routes to meet the financial requirement, so the OP will need to read all the information within the above link.

HI and welcome to BE

Suggest that you use the Returning to the UK forum for reading and questions. Lots of returning expats who have been there and done that and have written up their experiences and willing to assist others in their journey back home.
