Just introducing myself. Moving to Austin, Texas
Hi there. I am a 48 year old British woman. I am not currently an ex-pat but will be moving to live in Austin, Texas, USA at some point later this year hopefully. I have never been on any Forum before so please be patient with me as I am only just finding my way about and familiarizing myself with the protocol . I am moving to live with my husband (also English) who has been living and working in Austin for over a decade. I found this Forum completely by accident and am really hoping that it will help me in the coming months which I am dreading. I would obviously be interested to hear from anyone in a similar position. Thanks for taking the time.

Hi Fiona
Have you found what visa you must apply for if this is a permanent move? My oh had to do some paperwork, and then I had to complete more my end.
I found living in the USA completely different to visiting, but I imagine you may have had a few visits to the area you will be living.
Are you packing and shipping belongings or just replacing them as you will be in a different climate.
In Florida there was a British Expat Group, you may find one in Texas too.
best wishes to settle well.

Hi Fiona
First of all welcome to BE
I recommend you pop in and check out the USA forum, where you can cat to other expats who have either made the move or are like you and in the process of moving there. You will aslo find plenty of posters from Texas and Austin as well so they can tell you anything you want to know.
There is also a great immigration forum on there too, which will be a godsend when it comes to the dreaded visa process !
You will find the USA forum by clicking on the 'forum index' tab on the top left corner of this page, scroll down the list of countries and double click on USA and you're in.
Just pop in, say hi, and I am sure you will be chatting to plenty of folks before long.
All the best with your plans
