Hello Expats, I've just joined
Hello Everyone,
I'm a 53 year old British Expat living in Yakima, Washington State, USA. I share my life here with my lovely girlfriend who is American and originally from California.
We are planning, in about two and a half years from now to move to the UK by which time I will have been in the States for some 14 years.
Hopefully I'll find some people here who are making or have already made the journey back home for moral support and some practical advice.

Hi and welcome to BE
If you haven't already, familiarise yourself with our Moving Back to the UK forum Moving back to the UK - British Expats
Any questions about moving back to the UK can be handled there.
Also, familiarise yourself with our Site Rules and FAQ. The FAQ will help you with most questions you may have about the forum and its interface. If that doesn't answer your query, direct your question to the Site Feedback forum or PM the administrator, Sue .
As for you, have you got your US citizenship yet as a backup in case you decide to return to the US?

Hi Gozit, Thanks for the reply and response. I'm a Green Card holder and currently my mindset is to relinquish the Green Card at the earliest and most appropriate moment. Being permanently obligated to filing US taxes, FBAR & FATCA forms and goodness knows what else Etc. is not something I greatly relish. I do realize however that this is rather complicated (just like anything to do with the USA invariably is!) and it is looking very clear that getting back to the UK and ensuring everything is finalized and closed out properly in the USA is potentially going to be even more complicated than immigrating to this country originally was.
