On 12/24 the House recorded that the bill was passed by the Senate and the bill can now be finalized and sent to the President for signature. I believe once presented the President has 10 days to sign it and it could be after the NewYear so long as it is within the 10 days of presentation and before the end of the current session which will be Noon on Jan 3rd. If not signed by then, the bill is toast.

It was formally “presented” on December 27, 2024. This started the 10 day period for the President to sign it. Inasmuch as less than 10 days remain before the end of the Congressional session, the possibility of becoming law without signature no longer exists. So, the three possibilities are signature, veto or “pocket veto.” There has been no indication that the President intends to vet the bill.

There is forward progress. The bill has now been finalized and was presented to the President for signature on Friday. Unfortunately he has just arrived in St Croix for a well deserved (cough, cough) vacation and is unlikely to return before January 1st, so will likely get signed on Jan 2nd along with the other last minute bills. He won’t want to go down in history as the person who prevented this bill from becoming law. He has until Noon next Friday, worst case.

He does not have to be in DC to sign it. In the past, bill has been flown to the President and on occasion, an auto pen has been used.

IMHO it is not going to be signed by the outgoing President. He signed 50 bills on 12/24 and if Congress wanted this bill to be signed, they would have had it ready for submission long before 12/27. Passing it was only a "look good" act.

I’m inclined to think Biden will sign, with a bit of a fanfare event, probably flanked by police, fire & teachers. Biden is a union guy and WEP repeal was being pushed by these unions.

Thanks for the link above - first time I have watched a bill being signed, and it was also first time I had watched a senate vote. Learning more about how this country works has been interesting
