Cheers
I also got the impression that cornering at anything over 20 would prob be a bad idea

If it's a second motor, or something for a bit of fun that you don't have to rely on, then it's alright...but if you need to rely on it as a means of normal road transport, it's a tad shite, especially in winter and well, not starting.

I'll second that My Wife owns one that I have to drive the 14 miles each way to work because she works 25 miles away and it averages about 10 to the gallon ...........Great fun up in the mountains though ...... On higways ?......... A but like driving a bouncy castle.

Like I said elsewhere, you'll end up looking like a sorority chick.

Wranglers as used on roads are jittery, bouncy, drafty and noisy. That removable top (hard or soft) lets in both heat and cold with equal vengeance. They guzzle gas, give you a sore arse, and I wouldn't be surprised if the insurance is steep too (although I don't know that for fact). If you get one, trips to Moab are compulsory to maintain self-respect.

8k has to be able to buy you something else.

I will begin my search in earnest but was initially put off when I checked out carmax and saw they were asking $7.5k for a 5 year old dodge neon

From a dealer, they specialise in second hand saab's, it helps that they are right next door to another second hand saab dealer

had a full service history and two previous owners, 97K on the clock when we got it....but not bad money especially as the list price from new was $38K as it was loaded with leather seats, decent sound, and all the shite electric toys....can get a lot of saab for your money in this state, especially for a 4-6 year old motor....

I reckon you want to go round the dealers with an open mind and see what you can get for your bucks, remember to knock them down from the initial price as they usually can come down quite a bit on second hand motor in my experience.

I have just spotted a likely candidate - a 5 yo nissan pathfinder.
They are looking $8k for it - I will go for a look tonight and if interested offer $6k and see what happens.

I bought all my cars at home through a mate so this is a bit of a new experience for me

Don't know much about the Pathfinder but a mate had the Patrol as a farm work horse for a number of years with no problems.
