Default Working in USA - should I pay UK tax too?

I live and work in the US and pay all relevant taxes in the States. However, I heard recently that you should still be paying national insurance and, possibly other taxes in the UK on those earnings.

I have googled a few things but am not sure what the truth is. Does anyone know what the situation is? I'm worried that if I ever return to the UK to live I might have big tax bills. I have only been here a year so far but want to get anything that needs sorted, fixed sooner rather than later

Thanks for any help!

UK and US have a tax treaty so you don't have to pay tax twice. NI contributions will help pay towards your UK state pension but are optional.

we fill in a US tax return and a UK tax return. However the UK return is a lot barer than the US one because the rules mean we dont have to pay twice - BUT we do need to fill in the return to declare any income in the UK - (ie think we stated our bank account interest paid in the uk on the uk return and this ended up being refunded to us.

tax return if your renting a house in the UK is the usual reason to bother doing it...don't get double taxed though.
