where to live in the US
howye
i have recently got my mitts on a green card through the diversity lottery and plan to move over in oct.
i have been trawling through the web trying to decide wheres the best place to move too and san diego looks good.
i would love any comments from your good selves on san diego or any other places i should consider
im single 30 yr old male with a good lump of cash

LOL, are you sure you couldn't be more vague? What do you do for a living? How much cash in a lump? Do you want to buy a house with a yard? Live in a condo?

BTW, San Diego is a nice place, but cost of living is high compared to many other places in the USA.

Depends what type of house you want to buy, how much money you want to spend, what kind of weather you prefer, if you like traffic or not.....the list is endless lol.

Friendly place, loads to do for everyone... cultural (Balboa Park & Museums, lots of art galleries,) beach, concerts, Del Mar races (and its fab Friday at Five events throughout the annual carnival www.dmtc.com), not too far from the ski fields (five hrs to Mammoth www.mammothmountain.com), beaches, surfing, kyaking, cycling, triathalons... (also muddy buddy at Pendleton).

You might consider San Luis Opispo. Never heard of it: http://www.visitslo.com/
A lot cheaper than SD and slower paced.
Midway between LA and San Francisco. I've settled in SF and wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
SD seems to be the destination of choice. I remember when I first come to the US, living in Seattle, when watching football on TV, I couldn't quite grasp seeing the crowd in Tee shirts while we were freezing in 27F temps.
Of course if Hawaii is an option

If you have the money, maybe a road trip is in order.
Plan on a few weeks in a car. Rent a car in Florida and drive to California. Stay at cheap motels (Motel6, etc) as you cross the country. You'll see things you cannot possibly imagine just now, and you'll meet people who will tell you all sorts of tales about where to live, etc.
Visit a lot of cities you've heard about and some you haven't. You'll get a much better idea of what is out there and what is available after you have seen it first hand.
If you are really up for it, consider Boston-NY-Phil-Baltimoe-DC-Pittsburg-Cleveland-Detroit-Chicago-St. Louis-Memphis-Atlanta-Florida-New Orleans-Houston-Dallas-Denver-Vegas-Phoenix-San Diego-LA-San Fran-Seattle.
