When is the best time to apply for a green card
I am on an H1-B visa right now and i still have until this December for my visa to expire. when is the best time to apply for a green card? thank you for your reply.

Anytime, as long as your employer is ready and willing.
It has nothing to do with your visa, which is used only to enter the country.

The H1B can be extended for a further 3 years after the first 3 years. If you have
finished you first 3 years then you should apply for the extension immediately. I
believe the H1B to Green Card takes 2-3 years.

Today. No, wait... yesterday.
Seriously, you never know what is going to happen in the future. I thought I had the
safest job in the world and the best relationship with my employer, so I didn't start
my GC process until about 1 1/2 years into my first H1-B. I did get the CG about a
year later (last October). Right now, the company is being liquidated. As a GC holder
I had no trouble finding a new job. OTOH, trying to find a new employer willing to
sponsor me for a new H1-B would have been so much more of a hassle.
IMHO, there is very little (if anything) to be gained from waiting, especially if
your employer is willing to sponsor you for a GC, pay the legal fees, etc.
