Plus it allows one to claim asylum in London.

I didn't realize that NYC ordinances were enforced in Colorado. Thanks for setting me straight on that.

He did renounce his citizenship I believe, mainly so he wouldn't have to use a U.S. passport to enter and leave the country.

And seeing as he regards the fee of £250k for his Torygraph column as "chicken feed" potentially he could have faced a big tax liability from the US too. IIRC he said that he never realised he was a USC until a CBP officer asked why he wasn't using his US passport to enter the country.

Much as I dislike Bozza for his politics, his episode of "Who Do You Think You Are?" was really good. "Aha! Ich habe der mystery gesolved!"

Yeah, because every 15 September, and every 8 May we have a really big hoolley and get in the nearest German's face and tell them we won the war... NOT!

Oh yeah...the friggin' imperial measurement system. Helping your kid with their homework when the answer is in ft/sec, or square inches, or yards, or pounds. FFS! Get into the 21st century!

Yep, the US has had plague cases in the western states, usually a few hundred cases or fewer per year in the 90s. Numbers have been lower since the naughties began, but it's here in the Americas, according to the CDC's plague map: http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvbid/plague/world98.htm

No, but every time England plays Germany in football the papers are filled with images of Spitfires and so on.

That said, I think there should be a '4th of July Retorts' thread where we all share tips on what to fire back at smart arses.

By far the best one I've heard is 'we also celebrate the 4th of July in the UK. We call it Thanksgiving ...'
