That may not be squeamishness, it may be just be one of those words that crossed the Atlantic and stuck that way - it comes from middle English "nurshen", to nourish, or to take care of someone.

Make the bottle-feeding Mums go and sit in a little room on their own with bored older siblings while their companions are having a nice drink in the Cafe, as well.
